What If We (song)
Malta participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "What If We" written by Marc Paelinck and Gregory Bilsen. The song was performed by Chiara, who had previously represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in the 1998 and 2005 edition where she achieved third and second place with the songs "The One That I Love" and "Angel", respectively. The Maltese entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia was selected through the national final GO Malta EuroSong 2009, organised by the Maltese broadcaster Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The competition consisted of a semi-final round and a final, held between 8 November 2008 and 7 February 2009, where "What If We" performed by Chiara eventually emerged as the winning entry after gaining 46% of the public televote. Chiara Siracusa
Chiara Siracusa better known by her mononym Chiara (born 25 September 1976), is a Maltese singer. She represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998, 2005, and 2009 and is with a second and a third place the third most successful participant who never won the contest (behind Germany's Katja Ebstein and Wind). Biography Eurovision 1998 In 1998, she won Malta's Song for Europe festival, the national pre-selection for Eurovision, with the gentle ballad "The One That I Love", which she then took to the contest in Birmingham. Television Malta
Television Malta ( mt, Televixin Malta; TVM) is a terrestrial television network in Malta operated by the national broadcaster, Public Broadcasting Services. Alongside the main TVM network, PBS operates a sister channel TVMNews+ (formerly TVM 2). History TVM was launched on 29 September 1962 as the first television service in Malta, although television broadcasts from neighbouring Sicily in far-southern Italy could be received in Malta from as early as 1957. In October 2011, PBS announced another overhaul of the TVM brand, to mark 50 years since the establishment of the Malta Television Service in 2012. Andorra participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 with the song "La mirada interior" written by Rafael Artesero, Daniel Aragay and Rafa Fernández. The song was performed by Marian van de Wal. Philip Vella is a Maltese musical composer. He has won the main national festivals of Malta several times such as the Malta Song for Europe, International Festival of Maltese Song ( Malta Song Festival) as well as L-Għanja tal-Poplu festival. Gerard James Borg
Gerard James Borg is a Maltese songwriter, author, and concept creator. He is well known for writing multiple songs that competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. Borg has written six of the Maltese entries for the annual Eurovision Song Contest with composer Philip Vella. Their song "7th Wonder" sung by Ira Losco gave Malta 2nd place in the contest. This was the first time Malta reached 2nd place and it is the country's best result in the contest so far, alongside the 2nd place earned by Chiara with the song "Angel" in 2005. Borg and Vella also penned the song "Reaching Higher" as the official theme for the 2003 Games of the Small States of Europe which were held in Malta that year. Ludwig Galea
Ludwig Galea is a Maltese singer who performed in the Eurovision Song Contest in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2004. As one half of the duo " Julie and Ludwig", he and his singing partner (and by then, real-partner too), Julie Zahra, qualified to the final and came 12th out of 36 countries competing. Their song, " On Again... Off Again," recorded in Germany, was just in the top 12, so Malta were automatically qualified for the 2005 contest in Kiev, Ukraine in May 2005. Ludwig was born on 26 November 1977.
