What Evil Lurks
''What Evil Lurks'' is an EP by English band the Prodigy. The 12" vinyl record was released in a limited number in February 1991, selling around 7,000 copies. The title track sampled the introduction to the 1930s American radio show about adventure hero The Shadow, "What evil lurks in the heart of men?" The four songs were part of the 10-track demo Liam Howlett sent to XL Recordings when he was attempting to obtain a record deal. Before "What Evil Lurks" had released, "Android" got an early release in November 1990 and it was released on the expanded version of ''Experience''. The original version of "Everybody in the Place" is featured on the record and is different from the eventual "Fairground Version" on the single with the same name. The EP was re-issued in a limited edition on 27 September 2004, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of XL Recordings. The Prodigy
The Prodigy are an English electronic music band formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Liam Howlett. The original line-up also featured Rapping, MC and vocalist Maxim (musician), Maxim, dancer and occasionally live keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill, dancer Sharky, and dancer and vocalist Keith Flint. They describe their style as Electropunk, electronic punk. The band emerged during the underground rave scene and achieved early success in 1991 with their debut singles "Charly (song), Charly" and "Everybody in the Place", which reached the UK top five. XL Recordings
XL Recordings is a British independent record label founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes. It has been run and co-owned by Richard Russell since 1996. It forms part of the Beggars Group. It releases an average of six albums a year. The label releases albums worldwide and operates across a range of genres. Liam Howlett
Liam Paul Paris Howlett (born 21 August 1971) is an English record producer, musician, DJ, songwriter, co-founder and leader of the British electronic band the Prodigy. Early years Liam Paul Paris Howlett was born on 21 August 1971 in Braintree, Essex, England. Howlett was trained in classical piano (from childhood). At the age of 14, he mixed songs recorded from the radio using the pause button on his cassette player. He was first influenced by hip hop music and culture when he began to attend school at Alec Hunter High School in Braintree. He learned breakdancing alongside his crew called the Pure City Breakers, and DJed in his first band Cut 2 Kill. The Shadow
The Shadow is a fictional character created by American magazine publishers Street & Smith and writer Walter B. Gibson. Originally created to be a mysterious radio show narrator and developed into a distinct literary character in 1931 by Gibson, The Shadow has been adapted into other forms of media, including American comic books, comic strips, Serial (radio and television), serials, video games, and at least five feature films. The radio drama included episodes voiced by Orson Welles. Everybody In The Place
"Everybody in the Place" is the second official single released by the British electronic dance band the Prodigy from their debut album, ''Experience'' (1992). It was released on 23 December 1991 through XL Recordings in the UK. The single features the "Fairground Remix" version of the song. The version on the album is the ''"''155 & Rising Version''"'', which is significantly longer and faster in beats per minute than the original mix featured on the '' What Evil Lurks'' EP. The single peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, beaten to number one by the re-release of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" following the death of Freddie Mercury. The original CD single was released with five tracks, which went against British chart regulations. The track "Rip Up the Sound System" was removed on the re-issue to comply with the chart regulations, but is still available on the 12" vinyl.
