Whashton
Whashton is a village and civil parish in the county of North Yorkshire, England. From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the district of Richmondshire, it is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council. History The name is of an uncertain origin and could either be taken from a personal name ''(Hwaessa)'' or the ''farm/settlement at the sharp, pointed place (Hwaessing)''. The village (with an older spelling) is sometimes cited as the origin of the family name of George Washington, the first US President. However, this origin is also claimed by the town of Washington near Newcastle upon Tyne, some north of Whashton. The Hack & Spade public house was established by 1880. Farming The village is surrounded by farmland and has two main farms the Hagg which is down a track away from the main village. North Yorkshire Council
North Yorkshire Council, known between 1974 and 2023 as North Yorkshire County Council, is the local authority for the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire, England. Since 2023 the council has been a unitary authority, being a county council which also performs the functions of a district council. The council is based at County Hall, Northallerton, and consists of 90 councillors. It is a member of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. The council has been under no overall control since 2023, having initially been under Conservative Party control following the 2022 North Yorkshire Council election. Washington is a town in the City of Sunderland, Sunderland district, in Tyne and Wear, England. Historically part of County Durham, it is the ancestral settlement of the local Washington family, from which the first President of the United States George Washington descended. Richmond is a market town and Civil parishes in England, civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. A66 Road
The A66 is a major road in Northern England, which in part follows the course of the Roman road from Scotch Corner to Penrith. It runs from east of Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire to Workington in Cumbria. The road has been progressively improved with dual carriageway sections, but with stretches of single carriageway road.
