Wests Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club
Wests Scarborough Rugby Union Football Club, often shortened to Wests Scarborough or just "Wests", is a rugby union club based in Doubleview, Scarborough, Perth, Western Australia. They have several teams competing in RugbyWA competitions and have one side playing in the RugbyWA Fortescue Premier Grade. The club, established in 1930 and reformed in 1950, trains and plays at Bennett Park in Doubleveiw. The club has a newly renovated clubhouse, with a kitchen, licensed bar and changing facilities, overlooking the two rugby pitches. History The club was formed in 1930 as the Western Suburbs Rugby Union Club, winning its first premiership in 1932. The club folded during World War II but was reformed in 1950. From 1970 to 1974 four consecutive premierships were captured by the club, during these years members of the club were selected to play for Australia. The Western Australia Rugby Union (RugbyWA) is the Sports governing body, governing body of rugby union in Western Australia. The organisation develops and fosters rugby in Western Australia, from junior level to professional level. Doubleview is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the local government area of the City of Stirling. It was named Doubleview due to its views of both the Indian Ocean to the west and the Darling Range to the east. RugbyWA Fortescue Premier Grade
The RugbyWA Premier Grade (currently known as the Fortescue Metals Group, Fortescue Premier Grade under naming rights) is the highest level of domestic club Rugby union, rugby played in Western Australia. It was formed in 1928 and was the first consistent competition for rugby union in the state of Western Australia. It is competed annually form early April to mid August but with preseason training often starting before the season. The competition is managed by RugbyWA. The Premier Grade is contested by 13 teams from the Greater Perth area. In 2022, RugbyWA partnered with Stan (service), Stan Sport to broadcast one Premier Grade game per round. Wests Scarborough won the 2022 title, which ended their five-year premiership drought. John Welborn
John Welborn (born 8 September 1970) is a former Australian rugby union player, who played at the lock position. He is a former Wallaby. He was the first Western Australian-born player to represent Australia in rugby union, and played six matches for the Wallabies. During his career, Welborn played for CA Brive in Ligue Nationale de Rugby's TOP 14 division, the in the Currie Cup, Leicester Tigers in the Guinness Premiership, and for the Western Force in Super Rugby.
