Westmoreland County, New South Wales
Westmoreland County was one of the original Nineteen Counties in New South Wales and is now one of the 141 cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It is to the west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains (Australia), Blue Mountains. Coxs River is the border to the north, and the Wollondilly River to the east. Campbells River is the border in the north-east, where the county extends to near Bathurst, New South Wales, Bathurst, with the Fish River (New South Wales), Fish River part of the border. It includes the town of Oberon, and the Kanangra-Boyd National Park. Westmoreland County is named in honour of John Fane, 10th Earl of Westmorland, John Fane, Tenth Earl of Westmorland (1759–1841). The Electoral district of Cook and Westmoreland was the first state electoral district for the area, between 1856 and 1859. Several vessels have been named ''Westmoreland'': * was launched in Yarmouth. Between 1800 and 1804 she made two voyages as a slave ship in the triangular trade in enslaved people. A French privateer captured her during her second voyage but the Royal Navy recaptured her and she completed her voyage. The registers continued to carry her for a few years but with stale data; she actually made a voyage in 1805 to Demerara. On her way a privateer captured her. * was launched on the Thames. ''Westmorland'' or ''Westmoreland'' was a 26-gun British privateer frigate, operating in the Mediterranean Sea against French shipping in retaliation for France's opposition to Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War. Service history The most notable incident in the life of the ''Westmorland'' occurred shortly after she sailed for Britain from Livorno under Captain Michael Wallace late in 1778, carrying a large monetary payment for her inbound cargo of salt cod from Newfoundland (Livorno was a trade hub for this commodity), food goods, and 57 crates of artistic objects collected by Grand Tourists such as the Duke of Gloucester, Sir John Henderson and the Duke of Norfolk. Henry Clay Frick (December 19, 1849 – December 2, 1919) was an American industrialist, financier, and Patronage#Arts, art patron. He founded the H. C. Frick & Company Coke (fuel), coke manufacturing company, was chairman of the Carnegie Steel Company and played a major role in the formation of the giant U.S. Steel manufacturing concern. He had extensive real estate holdings in Pittsburgh and throughout the state of Pennsylvania. He later built the Neoclassical architecture, Neoclassical Henry Clay Frick House, Frick Mansion in Manhattan (now designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark), and upon his death donated his extensive collection of old master paintings and fine furniture to create the celebrated Frick Collection and art museum. Westmoreland Museum Of American Art
The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is an art museum in Greensburg, Pennsylvania devoted to American art, with a particular concentration on the art of southwestern Pennsylvania. Art lover and Greensburg resident Mary Marchand Woods hand down her entire estate to establish ''The Woods Marchand Foundation'' in 1949. The museum developed from this foundation, opening ten years later. The museum has expanded several times, beginning with a west-wing addition in 1968. In 2015, the museum reopened after two years of major renovations to expand and modernize its facilities. The expansion added 13,287 square feet to its original 30,000 area, where a cantilevered wing was added for exhibitions. William H. Westmoreland County Community College is a Public college, public community college in Youngwood, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1970 during an era of community college proliferation within the state.
