Western India Cricket Team
The Western India cricket team was active in first-class cricket from November 1933 until February 1946, operating in the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy for twelve seasons. It was based in Rajkot, Gujarat, then part of Saurashtra State. Western India, captained by the Englishman Herbert Barritt, won the Ranji Trophy in 1943-44. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's, Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London, England. The club was the governing body of cricket from 1788 to 1989 and retains considerable global influence. Ranji Trophy
The Ranji Trophy is a premier domestic first-class cricket championship played in India and organized annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is of three or more days scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but the term was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the International Cricket Council, Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Herbert Barritt
Herbert William Barritt (12 February 1904 – 26 May 1967) was an English first-class cricketer and educator. Barritt was born in the North Yorkshire village of Cross Hills in February 1904. He was educated nearby at Keighley Grammar School, before going up to Peterhouse, Cambridge. He played cricket for the Yorkshire Second Eleven in 1926, but did not feature for the Yorkshire first eleven. Following his graduation from Cambridge, Barritt moved into teaching and taught in British India. While in India he played first-class cricket for Western India in the Ranji Trophy, making ten first-class appearances between 1940 and 1944; he captained Western India to the 1943–44 Ranji Trophy, becoming the third Englishman after Albert Wensley and Tom Longfield to captain an Indian side to the Ranji Trophy. 1943–44 Ranji Trophy
The 1943–44 Ranji Trophy was the tenth season of the Ranji Trophy. Western India cricket team, Western India won their only title defeating Bengal cricket team, Bengal in the final. This season could be considered as the arbitrary starting point of high scoring in Indian domestic cricket that would last till the end of the decade. 2019–20 Ranji Trophy
The 2019–20 Ranji Trophy was the 86th season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It took place between December 2019 and March 2020. Chandigarh competed in the Ranji Trophy for the first time. Vidarbha were the defending champions. The 2022–23 Ranji Trophy was the 88th season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It was played from 13 December 2022 and was finished on 19 February 2023.
