Western Crusaders
The Western Crusaders is a Fijian former rugby union team that had a franchise area coverering Lautoka, Nadi, and Yasawa. The team played in the Colonial Cup (rugby union), Colonial Cup from 2004 to 2008 before the competition ceased in 2008. History The franchise was one of four original teams created for the inaugural Colonial Cup in 2004. Western Crusaders made the Grand final of the 2005 Colonial Cup but lost 35–27 to Suva Highlanders. Bligh Roosters joined the 2007 competition; Western Crusaders gave up Tavua, Fiji, Tavua, Vatukoula, Ba (town), Ba and Ra Province, Ra to the new franchise. Fiji Rugby Union
Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in Fiji. It is divided into over 30 provincial unions. The Fiji Rugby Union is a member of the Pacific Islands Rugby Alliance (PIRA), along with Samoa and Tonga. There are approximately 80,000 registered players from a total population of around 950,000. Ra Province
Ra is one of the fourteen provinces of Fiji. Occupying the northern area of Viti Levu, the largest island, it is one of eight Viti Levu-based Provinces. With a land area of 1,341 square kilometers, it had a population of 30,432 in 2017 census. The main urban centre is at Vaileka, with a population of 3,361 in 1996. Kelepi Ketedromo
Kelepi Rokoua Ketedromo (born 24 March 1981) is a Fijian former international rugby union player. Raised in Vaturova, Cakaudrove Province, Ketedromo began playing rugby in primary school. He undertook his secondary schooling in Labasa, at Labasa College and then All Saints Secondary School. Ketedromo played for the Navoci club after moving to Nadi and made his first national representative team as a Fiji Warriors representative at the 2009 Pacific Rugby Cup. Between 2010 and 2012, Ketedromo was capped five times for the full national side, primarily as a number eight. He captained the Fiji Warriors at the 2012 Pacific Rugby Cup in Australia. Waisea Luveniyali
Waisea Sedre Luveniyali (born Suva, 23 July 1985) is a Fijian rugby union footballer. He hails from the village of Kasavu in the province of Naitasiri, and his mother is from the village of Qarani, Gau in the Lomaiviti group. Career He plays as a fly-half, formerly for Fiji Warriors. Luveniyali was a late call up to the Fijian team in 2007 after playing for Fiji in the Under 21 World Cup. The young fly half was put right into the starting lineup to debut against Australia A, where they drew the game 14 – 14. Vereniki Goneva
Vereniki Goneva (born 5 April 1984) is a retired Fijian rugby union footballer who plays for Mont-de-Marsan in France's Pro D2, the second division. He plays as a centre or wing. Goneva made his debut in English rugby for Rotherham against Northampton Saints in the RFU Championship in the 2007–2008 season. He played for Leicester Tigers from 2012 to 2016, where he won the Aviva Premiership title, before signing with Newcastle Falcons. He has been Premiership Rugby's top try scorer during two seasons. Taniela Rawaqa (born April 30, 1986) is a Fijian rugby union player. He plays fullback, presently with the Western Crusaders in the Colonial Cup and with the Fiji Warriors in the Pacific Rugby Cup and internationally with Fiji. 2007 Colonial Cup
The 2007 Colonial Cup was rugby union competition held in Fiji. The Fiji Rugby Union controls the Colonial Cup which is used to pick players for the Fiji national team. This year saw the emergence of a new team, the Bligh Roosters, based in Tavua. This took the number of competing teams to 6. Ba (town)
Ba () is a town in Fiji, 37 kilometres from Lautoka and 62 kilometres from Nadi, inland from the coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. Covering an area of 327 square kilometres, it had a population of 14,596 at the 1996 census. The town is built on the banks of the Ba River, after which it is named. For a long time, Ba was famous for its soccer team which caused major traffic problems. The old bridge was washed away in the floods of 1990s and a new bridge built downstream. This resulted in the main highway (King's Road) bypassing Ba. Jiaxing City in China is Ba’s sister city. Iliesa Tanivula
Iliesa Samusamuvodre Tanivula (born 20 September 1975) is a former New Zealand sevens player and the current coach of the Fiji sevens team. Tanivula could play most positions in the backline. He mainly played at centre, wing or fullback. Playing career Tanivula was a secondary school sprinter in Fiji and attended Natabua High school. He was a soccer star in Fiji, playing for the Fiji Under-17 before joining the Auckland Development XV in 1997. Vatukoula
Vatukoula (, meaning "gold rock" in Fijian) is a gold mining settlement in Fiji, 9 km inland from the Town of Tavua on the island of Viti Levu. Colonial history Vatukoula may be viewed historically as the cradle of the modern gold mining industry in Fiji. The discovery of gold in the Tavua district is attributed to Baron de Este, who found it in the Nasivi River in 1872. Some 20 years later, New Zealand prospector Fielding, began a systematic search along the Nasivi river. However, discovery of gold in commercial quantities in 1932 at Vatukoula, is attributed to Scottish prospector Bill Borthwick.
