Western Boone Junior-Senior High School
The Western Boone Junior-Senior High School, colloquially called WeBo, is a public high school located in Thorntown, Indiana. History The school was founded after the consolidation of five Boone County public schools: Dover, Pinnell, Thorntown, Washington, and Granville Wells. To represent the five schools, Orion the star was chosen to represent to newly founded school as its mascot. Athletics The Western Boone Stars are currently members of the Sagamore Conference. However, between the 2024–25 and 2026-27 school years, Western Boone will be leaving to form a new 6-School conference with Crawfordsville, Frankfort, North Montgomery, Southmont, and an unnamed sixth school. Thorntown is a town in Sugar Creek Township, Boone County, Indiana. The population was 1,520 at the time of the 2010 census. Thorntown is located in northwestern Boone County, about halfway between Lafayette and Indianapolis. History The first permanent settlement at Thorntown was made in 1827. Sagamore Conference (IHSAA)
Sagamore Conference is an eight-member IHSAA sanctioned athletic conference comprising 2A and 3A and sized schools in Clinton, Boone, Hendricks, and Montgomery Counties in Central Indiana. The Sagamore Conference was founded in 1966 in Lebanon, Indiana with a meeting between school officials from Brownsburg, Carmel, Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Lebanon, and Noblesville. The founders selected the name "Sagamore" after the Abnaki Indian tribe's name for "chief". The conference remained stable until Carmel withdrew in 1973 to establish themselves with other schools in then-class AAA and Noblesville followed suit in 1979. This did not stop the Sagamore however as North Montgomery was added in 1975, Western Boone in 1981, and Southmont in 1984. Brownsburg departed in 1985. The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. The Indiana State Fair Band Day is a marching band competition held at the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis every August. The contest serves as the championship for the Central Indiana Track Show Association, an organization that governs marching band contests in Indiana during the Summer.
