Western Australian Speleological Group
The Western Australian Speleological Group (WASG) is a speleological group based in Nedlands, Western Australia. It was created in 1958 to promote speleology, scientific investigation, and the fostering and preservation of caves in Western Australia. As Western Australia's largest caving group, WASG continually arranges caving expeditions to undertake cave surveys, implement rehabilitation measures, and work to enable better access to caves. Earlier speleology in Western Australia had been done by the Western Australian Museum. Some published material identifies their parent organisation, the Australian Speleological Federation, rather than WASG, in their appraisals. It includes all named features that occur in the Australian Speleological Federation Karst Index Database (KID). The term "karst feature" is an umbrella term for Topography, topographical features formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, Dolomite (rock), dolomite, and gypsum. A cave survey is a map of all or part of a cave system, which may be produced to meet differing standards of accuracy depending on the cave conditions and equipment available underground. Cave surveying and cartography, i.e. the creation of an accurate, detailed map, is one of the most common technical activities undertaken within a cave and is a fundamental part of speleology. Surveys can be used to compare caves to each other by length, depth and volume, may reveal clues on speleogenesis, provide a spatial reference for other areas of scientific study and assist visitors with route-finding. Australian Speleological Federation
Formed in 1956, the Australian Speleological Federation Inc. (ASF) is the national body representing those interested in the protection and sustainability of Australia's cave and karst environments. It has approximately 950 members across 24 caving clubs throughout all Australian states and territories. The ASF represents Australia within the International Union of Speleology, which is linked with UNESCO. The federation is registered as an environmental organisation by the Department of the Environment and Energy, Canberra. The ASF maintains a public fund, authorised under the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 item 6.1.1, subsection 30–55(1), to receive tax-deductible donations for its environmental purposes. ASF works in environmental protection. Western Australian Naturalists' Club
The Western Australian Naturalists' Club (WANC), founded in Perth, Western Australia, in 1924, is one of the oldest conservation groups in Australia. It caters for those interested in all areas of natural history and conservation in Western Australia through a program of excursions, meetings, workshops and social events. It consists of branches across the Perth metropolitan area, in the northern suburbs, southern suburbs, the Perth Hills (usually known as the Darling Range branch and the Perth city branch suburbs and the governing council. Yanchep
Yanchep is a coastal town north of Perth, Western Australia, north of the Perth CBD. It is a part of the City of Wanneroo local government area. Originally a small crayfishing settlement, it was developed by entrepreneur Alan Bond in the 1970s and 80s for the 1987 America's Cup. The area covers the urban centre of Yanchep as well as Yanchep National Park in its entirety.
