Western Australian Land Information System
WALIS was established by the Western Australian (WA) Government in 1981. It is responsible for coordinating the discovery of, and access to, location-based or geographic data generated by WA Government agencies. WALIS achieves this through partnerships between organisations, projects, committees and working groups; coordinated through Landgate. History The idea for WALIS began in the late seventies although WALIS was not established until 1981. Since that time there have been many people involved in WALIS, some restructures and many different plans and strategies. Central to WALIS management was the Land Information System Advisory Committee, established as a forum to represent the interests of the public and private sector. The main WALIS group was the Land Information System Support Centre (LISSC), composed of technology and skilled personnel. ANZLIC
ANZLIC, or The Spatial Information Council, is the peak intergovernmental organisation providing leadership in the collection, management and use of spatial information in Australia and New Zealand. It supports the establishment of a Spatial Data Infrastructure in the region and has published geospatial metadata standards. ANZLIC started in 1986 as the ''Australian Land Information Council'' (''ALIC'') and it became the ''Australia and New Zealand Land Information Council'' (''ANZLIC'') in 1991. ANZLIC, now refers to itself as the Spatial Information Council. Warwick Watkins was the longest serving Chairman of ANZLIC, 2000–2011, until he was dismissed from the NSW Public Service. ANZLIC chair appointments are typically only for two years, but Watkins held the chair for more than eleven.
