West Siberian Military District
The Siberian Military District was a Military district of the Russian Ground Forces. The district was originally formed as a military district of the Russian Empire in 1864. In 1924 it was reformed in the Red Army. After the end of World War II the district was split into the Western and Eastern Siberian Military Districts. In 1956 the western district's name was changed back to Siberian Military District, and in 1998 the Transbaikal Military District was merged into it. In 2010 it was divided between the two newly formed Central Military District, Central and Eastern Military District, Eastern Military Districts. 178th Rifle Division (Soviet Union)
The 178th Rifle Division was formed as an infantry division of the Red Army in the Siberian Military District, based on the ''shtat'' (table of organization and equipment) of September 13, 1939, on the basis of the separate 386th Rifle Regiment. Following the German invasion it was moved west and concentrated west of Moscow as part of 24th Army in early July. Late that month the Army was assigned to Reserve Front. While this Army played the main role in the successful offensive at Yelnya, the 178th was held in reserve. In late August, in response to a German drive against 22nd Army on the right flank of Western Front, the division was moved by rail and truck northward to join 29th Army in the vicinity of Nelidovo, to cover the gap between that Army and the 22nd. Tomsk Oblast () is a federal subjects of Russia, federal subject of Russia (an oblast). It lies in the southeastern West Siberian Plain, in the southwest of the Siberian Federal District. The 8th Army was a field army of the Soviet Red Army during the Second World War. The 75th Cavalry Division was a cavalry formation of the Red Army which fought during World War II. History It was formed in September and October 1941 in Novosibirsk, Siberian Military District. Achinsk () is a city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, located on the right bank of the Chulym River near its intersection with the Trans-Siberian Railway, west of Krasnoyarsk. The 91st Motor Rifle Division was a division of the Soviet Army, formed twice. The division was first formed from a rifle division in 1957 and disbanded two years later. The division was reformed in 1970 without inheriting the lineage of the first formation, and was stationed in Mongolia between 1979 and 1987. After being pulled back to the Soviet Union it was downsized into a territorial training center, which later became a storage base.
