West Australian Screen Awards
The West Australian Screen Awards (WASA) are film awards given out in Western Australia. The WASAs are presented by FTI (WA). The Awards commenced in 1987, although they were put on hold for a year in 2012, before running again from 2013 to 2016, when it was finally cancelled. The awards were significant points in the careers of a number of Australian film stars and film companies. The awards have now evolved into the WA Screen Culture Awards which commenced in 2020. Western Australia (commonly abbreviated as WA) is a state of Australia occupying the western percent of the land area of Australia excluding external territories. FTI (Western Australia)
FTI WA Inc., formerly the Film and Television Institute and also known as the Perth Institute of Film and Television, was a screen resource centre located in Western Australia aimed at increasing the vibrancy of the screen sector, including film, Television, games and interactive media. Founded in 1971, the Institute occupied the heritage-listed old Fremantle School building in Adelaide Street, Fremantle, completed in 1854, before relocating to Northbridge, an inner city suburb in Perth, in May 2014. FTI It wound up operations on 20 June 2017, when it merged with Screenwest. The Western Australia Screen Culture Awards, also known as the WA Screen Culture Awards or WASCAs, acknowledge innovation and contributions in a wide range of screen-related artistic areas, where the work was created in Western Australia or by West Australians. The awards, launched in 2020, succeed a previous West Australian screen award series, and are presented annually.
