Wesley Klein
Wesley Klein (born 25 March 1988 in Leiderdorp, Netherlands) is a Dutch singer. He was mainly known for his participation in the Dutch version of the talent show '' Popstars'' on SBS 6 in its second series (2009–2010) in June 2009 in which he won on 29 January 2010. Klein worked in construction until his talent was discovered by accident during a gig in a pub in 2005. He started playing gigs and taking part in local music festivals. After successfully auditioning for the Dutch ''Popstars'' in 2009, he went on to win the title, receiving a trophy and a record deal to release his debut single " You Raise Me Up", the winner's song sung by all four finalists. His version was released immediately after the finals and shot to No. 1 on the Dutch Single Top 100 chart dated 6 February 2010, staying at the top for two weeks. You Raise Me Up
"You Raise Me Up" is a song composed by Rolf Løvland with lyrics by Brendan Graham. It was first recorded by Secret Garden, in collaboration with Brian Kennedy. Although the original version was not a major hit, the song has since been recorded by more than a hundred other artists, most notably American singer Josh Groban in 2003 and Irish group Westlife in 2005. Background Rolf Løvland composed an instrumental piece in 2001 and titled it "Silent Story". He later approached Irish novelist and songwriter Brendan Graham to write the lyrics to his melody, after reading Graham's novels. The song was performed for the very first time at the funeral of Løvland's mother. The original designated vocalist was Johnny Logan, who recorded a demo with an orchestra. Leiderdorp () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland near the city of Leiden. It had a population of in . Popstars (Netherlands)
Popstars was a singing competition series in the Netherlands. The first season started on 22 August 2008. A second season was aired for 2009-2010 and third season aired in 2010-2011. The winners in season 1 were RED! made up of the three finalist winners Brandi Russell, Steffie Zoontjes and Deon Leon. Wesley Klein won in season 2 and Dean Saunders in season 3. The precursor of these shows was the Dutch version of ''Popstars: The Rivals'' broadcast on RTL 4 in 2004 hosted by Beau van Erven Dorens. The series was won by the boy band Men2B (male category) and girl band Raffish (female category). Both disbanded in 2006. SBS6 is a Dutch free-to-cable commercial TV channel and is a part of Talpa TV, formerly known as SBS Broadcasting B.V. and now owned by Talpa Network. Other channels of the group in the Netherlands are Net5, Veronica, and SBS9. History SBS stands for Scandinavian Broadcasting System. When the SBS Broadcasting Group started expanding outside of Scandinavia in 1995, one of the first countries where they set up a channel was the Netherlands with SBS6. The Dutch Single Top 100 or Single Top 100 is a Dutch chart, based on official physical single sales, legal downloads and since July 2013 streaming and composed by Dutch Charts. The Johan Cruyff Arena ( ; officially stylised as Johan Cruijff ArenA) is the main stadium of the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam and the home stadium of association football, football club AFC Ajax, Ajax since its opening. De Toppers
De Toppers (), also known internationally as The Toppers, is a Dutch Supergroup (music), supergroup, consisting of René Froger, Gerard Joling, Jeroen van der Boom and Jan Smit (singer), Jan Smit. Gordon Heuckeroth, one of the founding members, left the group in 2011. The group has performed a series of concerts every year since 2005 in the Johan Cruyff Arena. Their repertoire consists mainly of a mix of covers and original material. ''Toppers in Concert'', with more than 40 sold-out shows, is the longest running concert series in the Benelux.
