Marklohe
Marklohe is a municipality in Lower Saxony, Germany. Geography Geographical location The municipality of Marklohe is located 5 km from Nienburg/Weser, Nienburg on the opposite side of the river Weser and midway between Verden (Aller) and Minden. Marklohe is the administrative seat of the ''Samtgemeinde'' Weser-Aue. Municipality structure The municipality of Marklohe belongs to a district that directly adjoins the district of Lemke (Marklohe), Lemke and Wohlenhausen, and is about 1,5 km from the district of Ortsteil Oyle. History In 1931 the town changed from its original name, Lohe, to Marklohe. The speculation was that the central gathering place, Marklohe, was called Marklo by the pre-Christian Saxons. Balge
Balge is a municipality in the Nienburg (district), district of Nienburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany, located on the Weser river. The community belongs to the ''Samtgemeinde'' Weser-Aue which consists of six municipalities including Balge. History On March 1, 1974 the community of Balge, Blenhorst, Bötenberg, Buchhorst, Holzbalge, Mehlbergen and Sebbenhausen were merged to form a new municipality called Blenhorst. The name was officially changed to Balge on January 23, 1976. Politics The local council of governance consists of eleven women counsellors. Nienburg (district)
Nienburg () is a district (''Landkreis'') in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Diepholz, Verden, Heidekreis, Hanover and Schaumburg, and by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (district of Minden-Lübbecke). History From the early Middle Ages to the end of the 16th century this region was the heart of the County of Hoya. The ruling family became extinct in 1582, and the central and southern parts of the county were annexed by the Lüneburg branch of the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. In 1705 the area of Nienburg and Hoya became subordinate to Hanover. In 1866 the Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia.
