Werner Haseleu
Werner Haseleu (2 May 1935 – 29 June 2012) was a German operatic bass-baritone and academic voice teacher. He was a long-term member of the Staatsoper Dresden and the Komische Oper Berlin, often with director Harry Kupfer at both houses. He was known for leading roles in world premieres and contemporary opera. Life and career Haseleu was born in Wittenberg and trained in Leipzig. He debuted in 1958 at the Nationaltheater Weimar, and worked there until 1973. He appeared there as Leporello in Mozart's ''Don Giovanni'', Don Alfonso in ''Così fan tutte'', King Philipp in Verdi's ''Don Carlos'', the title role of ''Falstaff'' and as Ochs in ''Der Rosenkavalier'' by Richard Strauss, among others. In 1973 he moved to the Staatsoper Dresden. On 21 April 1974, he took part in the world premiere of Rainer Kunad's ''Sabellicus'' at the Berlin State Opera. Wittenberg, officially Lutherstadt Wittenberg, is the fourth-largest town in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, in the Germany, Federal Republic of Germany. ''Moses und Aron'' (English: ''Moses and Aaron'') is a three-act opera by Arnold Schoenberg with the music to the third act unfinished. The German libretto is by the composer. It is based on selected incidents from the Book of Exodus (chapters 3-32). Sigrid Neef (born 10 October 1944) is a German musicologist and theatre scholar, focused on Russian and Soviet opera. She has been a dramaturge of the director Ruth Berghaus at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin for decades. Life Born in Fraureuth, Neef worked at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin from 1972 to 1993. Like her husband, the musicologist Hermann Neef, she is an expert on Russian and Soviet music, with personal contact to Alfred Schnittke, Rodion Shchedrin, the Dmitri Shostakovich biographer Solomon Wolkow and the director-in-chief of the Bolshoi Theatre, Boris Pokrovsky. Udo Zimmermann (6 October 1943 – 22 October 2021) was a German composer, musicologist, opera director, and conductor. He worked as a professor of composition, founded a centre for contemporary music in Dresden, and was director of the Leipzig Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He directed a contemporary music series for the Bayerischer Rundfunk and a European centre of the arts in Hellerau. The Stone Guest (Dargomyzhsky)
''The Stone Guest'' (''Каменный гость'' in Cyrillic, ''Kamennyj gost' '' in transliteration) is an opera in three acts by Alexander Dargomyzhsky from a libretto taken almost verbatim from Alexander Pushkin's 1830 play of the same name which had been written in blank verse and which forms part of his collection ''Little Tragedies''. It was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre, Saint Petersburg, 16 February 1872 (Old Style). According to the composer's wishes, the last few lines of tableau 1 were composed by César Cui, and the whole was orchestrated by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Many years later, Rimsky-Korsakov revised his own orchestration of the opera, rewrote a few of Dargomyzhsky's own original passages, and added an orchestral prelude.
