Block A was designed by Department of Public Works (Queensland) and built in 1911, while Block L was building in 1918. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 March 2020. History Wellcamp State School was established in 1899 as Wellcamp Provisional School in Wellcamp, a rural area 17 kilometres west of the centre of Toowoomba. It retains good examples of standard school architecture (Block A, 1911 and Block L, 1918), set within spacious grounds with mature trees, play areas, and sporting facilities. In continuous operation since its establishment, the school has been a focus for the surrounding community as a place of important social and cultural activity. History The locality was named by the Queensland Railways Department after a camp for workers constructing the Toowoomba–Hendon railway, which was beside a well. Mount Sylvia State School is a heritage-listed state school at 6 Left Hand Branch Road, Mount Sylvia, Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Department of Public Works (Queensland) and built in 1912 by Department of Public Works. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 28 February 2020. History Mount Sylvia State School was established in 1885 as the Blackfellow Creek Provisional School. Situated approximately 20km south of Gatton in the Lockyer Valley, the school retains a good example of a standard design timber school building (Block A, 1912). The school is surrounded by open farmland, bordered by two creeks, Blackfellow Creek and Tenthill Creek, and within its generous grounds are several mature trees, including a row of jacaranda trees. Blair Athol is a former town within Clermont in the Isaac Region, Queensland, Australia. It was obliterated by the development of the Blair Athol coal mine. Eleanor Elizabeth Bourne
Eleanor Elizabeth Bourne (1878–1957) was the first Queensland woman to study medicine. She also was one of only 15 women doctors in Australia who volunteered for service in World War I. Early life and education Bourne was born at South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia on 4 December 1878, eldest child of John Sumner Pears Bourne, clerk in the Land Commission Court, and his wife Jane Elizabeth, née Hockings. Always an outstanding student, Eleanor Bourne had topped the state in the scholarship examination of 1891, and entered Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School in 1892. Keen to study medicine and unable to find the prerequisite subjects at Girls’ Grammar, she attended Brisbane Grammar School (Boys) in 1896 to complete her secondary education and facilitate tertiary scholarship application. The Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA) is the Queensland chapter of the Country Women's Association in Australia. The association seeks to serve the interests of women and children in rural areas in Australia through a network of local branches. Established in 1922, local branches provide friendship and mutual support to their members while contributing to the betterment of life in their local communities.
