Well Kept Secret (Juice Newton Album)
''Well Kept Secret'' is the fourth studio album by country pop singer Juice Newton. Her first three albums – ''Juice Newton and Silver Spur'' (1975) and ''After the Dust Settles'' (1976) for RCA Records, and ''Come to Me (Juice Newton album), Come to Me'' for Capitol Records, Capitol (1977) – were credited to the group Juice Newton and Silver Spur. ''Well Kept Secret'' was released by Capitol in 1978 and is Newton's first album as a solo artist, though Silver Spur remained her backing band for five more years. The album marked Newton's most rock music, rock-oriented record up to that time and features five songs written by her long-time collaborator Otha Young. Other songs on the album include cover versions of Bruce Channel's 1961 hit "Hey! Judith Kay "Juice" Newton (born February 18, 1952) is an American pop and country singer, songwriter, and musician. Newton has received five Grammy Award nominations in the Pop and Country Best Female Vocalist categorieswinning once in 1983as well as an ACM Award for Top New Female Artist and two consecutive ''Billboard'' Female Album Artist of the Year awards. Newton's other awards include a People's Choice Award for "Best Female Vocalist" and the Australian Music Media's "Number One International Country Artist". Released as a 45 rpm single on July 9, 1963, on the Motown subsidiary Gordy label, it hit number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B chart—where it stayed for four weeks—and peaking at number 4 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) were an American vocal girl group formed in Detroit in 1957. The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown. An act founded by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford and Gloria Williams, the group eventually included Martha Reeves, who moved up in ranks as lead vocalist of the group after Williams' departure in 1962. The group signed with and eventually recorded all of their singles for Motown's Gordy imprint. Holland–Dozier–Holland was a songwriting and production team consisting of Lamont Dozier and brothers Brian and Eddie Holland. The trio wrote, arranged and produced many songs that helped define the Motown sound in the 1960s. During their tenure at Motown Records from 1962 to 1967, Dozier and Brian Holland were the composers and producers for each song, and Eddie Holland wrote the lyrics and arranged the vocals. Their most celebrated productions were singles for the Four Tops and the Supremes, including 10 of the Supremes' 12 US No. 1 singles, including " Baby Love", " Stop! Bruce Channel ( ; born November 28, 1940) is an American singer-songwriter best known for his 1962 million-selling number-one hit record, "Hey! Baby". Career Channel performed originally for the radio program '' Louisiana Hayride'' and then joined with the harmonica player Delbert McClinton, singing country music. Channel wrote "Hey! Baby" with Margaret Cobb in 1959 and performed the song for two years before recording it for Fort Worth record producer Bill Smith. It was issued originally on Smith's LeCam label, but as it started to sell well, it was acquired for distribution by Smash Records, a subsidiary of Mercury. The song went to number one in the US in March 1962 and held that position for three weeks. Besides topping the U.S. popular music charts, it also became number two in the United Kingdom.
