Weisstannen is a village located in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. It lies in the municipality of Mels, south-west of Sargans. Weisstannen is located at 1,004 metres above sea level on the Seez river in the Weisstannen valley (''Weisstannental''). It lies at the foot of the Pizol mountain. Weisstannen is the starting point of the trails across Foo and Riseten passes, which cross to different villages in the canton of Glarus. Weisstannen is a village located in the canton of Canton of St. Gallen, St. Gallen, Switzerland. It lies in the municipality of Mels, south-west of Sargans. Seez River
The Seeztal () is a valley in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, extending to the east of Lake Walen () for some and followed by the lower portion of the river Seez (its upper portion flows through the ). The Seeztal appears to be a left branch off the Alpine Rhine valley at Sargans, but there is a divide at Mels. Situated in the Seeztal are the municipalities of Walenstadt ( a.s.l.), Flums ( a.s.l.) and Mels ( a.s.l.). Transportation The Seeztal lies along the shortest route between the cities of Chur (the capital of the canton of Grisons) and Zürich (Switzerland's largest city). Running along the valley are the A3 motorway and the Ziegelbrücke–Sargans railway line. Mels is a municipality in the ''Wahlkreis'' (constituency) of Sarganserland in the Seeztal, canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. History Mels is first mentioned in 765 as ''Maile'' though this comes from a later copy of the original document. In 1018 it was mentioned as ''Meilis''. Geography Mels has an area, , of . Of this area, 42.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while 29.3% is forested. Matt, Glarus
Matt is a village, and former municipality, in the municipality of Glarus Süd and canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Matt lies in the valley of the Sernf river, and consists of the village of Matt itself, and the mountain hamlet of Weissenberge. History Matt is first mentioned in 1273 as ''Mattun''. In 1879, the valley of the Linth river was connected to the Swiss railway network by the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway line from Weesen, but Matt, in the side-valley of the Sernf river, remained unserved. This impacted the local economy, and various proposals were brought forward to provide rail service to the Sernf valley. Eventually, on 8 July 1905, the Sernftal tramway, a metre gauge roadside electric tramway, was opened connecting Schwanden with Matt and other communities as far as Elm. It crosses the col between the peaks of Foostock and Piz Sardona.
