Weimer Hicks
Weimer Kerr Hicks (May 9, 1909 – April 1985) was an American academic administrator who worked as the 12th president Kalamazoo College from 1954 to 1971. Career Hicks worked as an administrator and coach at the Peddie School and as headmaster of Wayland Academy. During his tenure as president of Kalamazoo College, Hicks worked to implement the "K Plan", an academic program that serves as the basis for the liberal arts Liberal arts education (from Latin "free" and "art or principled practice") is the traditional academic course in Western higher education. ''Liberal arts'' takes the term '' art'' in the sense of a learned skill rather than specifically th ... education which students receive at the school. Hicks conceived of the "K Plan" program under which most Kalamazoo students spend at least one term abroad and spend at least one term working in an academic internship. Kalamazoo College
Kalamazoo College, also known as Kalamazoo, K College, KC or simply K, is a private liberal arts college in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Founded in 1833 by Baptist ministers as the Michigan and Huron Institute, Kalamazoo is the oldest private college in the U.S. state of Michigan. From 1840 to 1850, the institute operated as the Kalamazoo Branch of the University of Michigan. After receiving its charter from the state in 1855, the institute changed its name to Kalamazoo College. Wayland Academy is a private, coeducational college preparatory boarding high school located in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, United States. The student population at the beginning of the 2021–22 school year was 125. Nearly three-quarters of the students board at the school. History Wayland Academy was chartered by the legislature of Wisconsin in 1855 as Wayland University, by a group that included S. L. Rose (Beaver Dam's representative to the Wisconsin State Assembly) and other local dignitaries. Founded as a Baptist academy, it was named for Francis Wayland.
