Weekendavisen Book Award
The Weekendavisen Book Award (Danish: ''Weekendavisens litteraturpris'') is an annual literary award presented by the Danish newspaper '' Weekendavisen'' (''"The Weekend Newspaper"''). The nominees are selected in December by ''Weekendavisen''s corps of literary critics, and the final winner is selected by the readers. The ceremony takes place in January the following year. Weekendavisen
''Weekendavisen'' (meaning ''The Weekend Newspaper'' in English) is a Danish weekly broadsheet newspaper published on Fridays in Denmark. Its circulation (as of 2007) is approximately 60,000 copies, about ten per cent of which cover subscriptions outside Denmark. According to opinion polls, however, the actual number of readers is much higher (290,000 in 2007). History Until 1971 the Danish postal service distributed mail twice daily, in the morning and in the afternoon. When afternoon mail delivery was discontinued, ''Berlingske Aftenavis'' (''Berlingske Evening Newspaper''), which was the evening edition of the daily newspaper ''Berlingske Tidende'', had to cease publication, and ''Weekendavisen'' came into existence as a replacement, known for the first several years as ''Weekendavisen Berlingske Aften''. Jørgen Leth (; born 14 June 1937) is a Danish poet and film director who is considered a leading figure in experimental documentary film making. Most notable are his documentary '' A Sunday in Hell'' (1977) and his surrealistic short film '' The Perfect Human'' (1968). He is also a sports commentator for Danish television and is represented by the film production company Sunset Productions. Early life Born on 14 June 1937 in Aarhus, Denmark, Leth studied literature and anthropology in Aarhus and Copenhagen and was a cultural critic (jazz, theatre, film) for leading Danish newspapers from 1959 to 1968. Hans Edvard Nørregård-Nielsen (2 January 1945 – 2 April 2023) was a Danish art historian. Nørregård-Nielsen was born in . He was an alumnus of Ribe Katedralskole and wrote several memoirs. In 2001, he was awarded the De Gyldne Laurbær prize for ''Riber Ret''. His 1995 book, ''Golden Age of Danish Art'' reviews early nineteenth-century art. He was Chairman of the New Carlsberg Foundation Board until the end of 2013. He was also an adjunct professor of art history at the Aarhus University.
