Watsonians
Watsonian Football Club is a rugby union club based in Edinburgh and part of the Scottish Rugby Union. The club is connected with George Watson's College as a club for former pupils, and changed its policy in the 1980s to be a fully open club, welcoming players of all abilities regardless of whether they attended the school or not. It is one of a small number of rugby union clubs entitled to call itself a 'football club', rather than a 'rugby football club'. Scottish Unofficial Championship
The Scottish Unofficial Championship was the top league of Scotland's best amateur rugby union clubs. The Championship was 'unofficial' as the Scottish Rugby Union held that the sport should remain amateur and at the time did not sanction competitive games between the clubs. History Numerous forms of football were played in Scotland in the years prior to the introduction of the Rugby rules which were adopted for the boys of Edinburgh Academy in the early 1850s. The game spread to Merchiston and the Royal High School with inter school games beginning in 1858. In 1857 the former pupils of Edinburgh Academy formed the first club in Scotland. The game spread and by the end of the 1860s the Academicals opponents included Edinburgh University, St Andrews University, the Merchistonians, Royal HSFP, West of Scotland FC, Glasgow Academicals, Edinburgh Wanderers and Glasgow University. Watsonians Ladies Rugby
Watsonian FC Ladies is a women's rugby union team based in Edinburgh and part of the Scottish Rugby Union. The club is part of Watsonians RFC and plays at the club's home ground of Myreside Road, Edinburgh. Squads Watsonians have one ladies team who play in the Ladies Tennents Premiership. In season 2018/19 they have also begun a girls section from u12 - u18 level. Formed in 2001 by a number of players from different clubs around the city, the team played in Premier league for most of their existence and also in National 1- last winning that competition in the 2016/17 season. Following promotion to the Premiership again in 2017/18 Watsonians ladies have established themselves again at that level and in season 2017/18 were runners up in the Sarah Beaney Cup. Euan Kennedy
Euan Kennedy (born 30 July 1954 in Edinburgh, Scotland) is a former Scotland international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career He played for Watsonians. Provincial career He played for Edinburgh District; and was part of the 1986–87 Scottish Inter-District Championship winning side. He played for the Reds Trial side in their match against Blues Trial on 3 January 1987. International career He was capped by Scotland 'B', both times against France 'B', in 1976 and 1981. He was capped for Scotland 4 times, scoring 1 try; against England at Murrayfield. He was part of 1984 Scotland team that won the Grand Slam of the Five Nations Championship. Myreside Stadium
Myreside Stadium is a sports ground in Edinburgh, Scotland. Often simply known as Myreside, Watsonians RFC have used this venue on the east side of Myreside Road as their home ground for rugby union matches since 1933. Edinburgh Rugby used it for some home matches 1996–2002 an again in 2017 and 2018; this included Pro12, later Pro14 and European Rugby Challenge Cup matches. A main stand is positioned along the west side of the grass pitch, with floodlights around the ground. Ahead of the Edinburgh Rugby team's return to play home matches at the stadium, temporary stands were installed to increase seating capacity to 13,799. History The ground originally used by Watsonians RFC was called Myreside, which took its name from a local farm.
