Watermark Inc. was a radio syndication company that was founded in 1969 by Tom Rounds and Ron Jacobs. Watermark's best known programs were ''American Top 40'' and its spinoff ''American Country Countdown''. Both shows were created by Casey Kasem and Don Bustany. Watermark also syndicated other shows including ''The Robert W. Morgan Special of the Week'', ''Alien Worlds'', ''Soundtrack of the 60's'' (hosted by "Murray the K" from 1980 to 1981 and Gary Owens to series end), ''TV Tonite with Ron Hendren'', ''Profiles in Rock'' (hosted by Terry McGovern), '' Ringo's Yellow Submarine'', and ''The Elvis Presley Story'', as well as occasional specials. The company also produced the "Cruisin'" series of albums, recreating top 40 disk jockey shows of the 1950s and 1960s and released on Increase Records (which at the time was a unit of Watermark), and Jack S. Tom Rounds
Tom Rounds (June 6, 1936 – June 1, 2014) was an American commercial broadcasting, radio broadcasting executive, founder and chief executive officer of Radio Express in Burbank, California. Biography Early years After first entering the broadcasting profession at the campus radio station of Amherst College in Massachusetts in the late 1950s, Rounds then worked at WINS (AM) in New York City as a newsman in 1959 before agreeing to travel to Honolulu with the station's general manager to work at station KPOI. While in Hawaii, Rounds—hoping to gain publicity for his new position as a disc jockey—set the world record for sleeplessness. The period of 260 hours awake was attained while Rounds was sitting in a department store window display. Disk Jockey
A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Types of DJs include radio DJs (who host programs on music radio stations), club DJs (who work at a nightclub or music festival), mobile DJs (who are hired to work at public and private events such as weddings, parties, or festivals), and turntablists (who use record players, usually turntables, to manipulate sounds on phonograph records). Cumulus Media Networks was an American radio network owned and operated by Cumulus Media. From 2011 until its merger with Westwood One, it controlled many of the radio assets formerly belonging to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), which was broken up in 2007; Cumulus owned the portion of the network that was purchased by Citadel Broadcasting that year. Dick Bartley (born 26 July 1951), a popular American radio disc jockey since June 21, 1969, has hosted several popular syndicated radio shows of the oldies/classic hits genre, including the current ''Dick Bartley's Classic Hits'' and ''Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits'', both syndicated through United Stations Radio Networks. From 1982-2017, he was host of a national Saturday night call-in request show—the original version of ''Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits'' from 1991-2017—that aired live (until 2009, after which the program was pre-recorded); that program, along with the ''Classic Countdown'', were combined into the new ''Classic Hits'' show. ''Dick Bartley's Classic Hits'' was a syndicated weekly, four-hour, classic hits program written, produced and hosted by Radio Hall-of-Fame broadcaster Dick Bartley. It was syndicated across the country by United Stations Radio Networks and internationally via Radio Express. Twenty featured songs from a particular month — alternating between 1970s and 1980s from week to week — were featured and played countdown-style, from No. 20 to No. 1. ABC Audio is a radio syndicator, radio network and digital audio network in the United States. It is under the ownership of The Walt Disney Company, parent company of American Broadcasting Company (ABC), with satellite distribution being handled by Skyview Networks. It launched on January 1, 2015, as ABC Radio; it was renamed ABC Audio in 2019. Background ABC Radio originally began after the split of NBC Red and NBC Blue (later Blue Network) networks with ABC taking over operations of the latter from RCA in 1943 before adopting its name 2 years later. ABC Radio was known to broadcast the first nationwide report of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Elektra Records (or Elektra Entertainment) is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group, founded in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt.
