Wat Buppharam (; ), also known as the Buppharam Buddhist Temple, is a Theravada Buddhist temple within George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang. Situated at Jalan Perak, the temple is the home to a renowned statue of Buddha, the "Lifting Buddha". It becomes a focal point for the annual Songkran, Loy Krathong and Vesak Day festivities within the city, as well as the Jathukarm-Ramathep-Ganesha blessing ceremonies. History The temple was built during the Japanese occupation of British Malaya in 1942 by Phra Phothan Srikheaw, a Thai monk who became the temple's first abbot. Features The temple is renowned for a century-old Buddha statue nicknamed the "Lifting Buddha". Wat Buppharam (, ) is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Founded in 1497 by King Mueang Kaeo, the temple was where Kawila began a ritual circumambulation of Chiang Mai to reoccupy it after two centuries of Burmese rule. Wat Buppharam (), or locally known as Wat Plai Khlong (วัดปลายคลอง) is a Buddhist Thai temple in Mahā Nikāya sect, located at Moo 3, Ban Plai Khlong, Tambon Wang Krachae, Amphoe Mueang Trat, Trat Province, regarded as the oldest and most artistic and historical values temple in the province. The temple dates back to Ayutthaya period built since the King Prasat Thong's reign. Its name means ''"temple is full of fragrant flowers"'', because there is a story that when the founder surveyed the place to build the temple. He discovered the upland that was filled with the scent of flowers.
