Washington State Route 123
State Route 123 (SR 123) is a state highway in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mount Rainier National Park east of Mount Rainier in the U.S. state of Washington. Located in the counties of Lewis and Pierce, the long roadway extends through a heavily forested canyon from (US 12) to . First established as a branch of in 1923, the designation of SR 123 has changed from a branch of (PSH 5) in 1937 to SR 143 during the 1964 highway renumbering and SR 123 in 1967. The northern terminus of the highway, Cayuse Pass, is closed annually and in late 2006, the Hanukkah Eve windstorm of 2006 washed out a long segment of the roadway. Gifford Pinchot National Forest
Gifford Pinchot National Forest is a National Forest located in southern Washington, managed by the United States Forest Service. With an area of , it extends along the western slopes of Cascade Range from Mount Rainier National Park to the Columbia River. The forest straddles the crest of the South Cascades of Washington State, spread out over broad old-growth forests, high mountain meadows, several glaciers, and numerous volcanic peaks. The forest's highest point is at at the top of Mount Adams, the second-tallest volcano in the state after Rainier. ''Enumclaw Courier-Herald'' is a newspaper in Enumclaw, Washington. History The ''Enumclaw Courier-Herald'' was established in 1933 as a merge of ''Enumclaw Courier'' (since 1900) and ''Enumclaw Herald'' (since 1908). The newspaper absorbed the ''Buckley News Banner'' in 1973. The ''Enumclaw Courier-Herald'' was purchased by Black Press subsidiary Sound Publishing on 3 June 2008. It had previously been owned by Bill Marcum and the estate of Ted, John, and David Natt. The ''Bonney Lake-Sumner Courier-Herald'' was a sibling publication until it was absorbed into the paper in 2016. Staff Kevin Hanson was the editor from 2001 to early 2012, at which time Dennis Box was named editor. Bill Marcum was the publisher in 2003. Ride Around Mount Rainier In One Day
Ride Around Mount Rainier in One Day (RAMROD) is an annual bicycle ride on a course around Mount Rainier National Park in the U.S. state of Washington. The course uses several highways and roads around the park and features approximately of elevation gain over two mountain passes. The ride is held on the last Thursday of July and has been organized by the Redmond Cycling Club since it began in 1984. In 2007 the event was held with a modified route that did not circumnavigate Mount Rainier. The modified route was necessary due to the closure and severe damage to many roads in and near the park from the heavy rains during the Fall of 2006. In 2008 the Redmond Cycling Club moved back to the traditional route for the 25th anniversary of the event. The 2009 edition also featured a modified course due to a washout on Stevens Canyon Road.
