	United States Baseball League The United States Baseball League was a short-lived prospective third major professional baseball league that was established in New York City in 1912 and lasted only one partial season. History In March 1912, organizers of the proposed league – described by members of the sports establishment as an "outlaw league" – met in New York's Hotel Imperial. The U.S. Baseball League subsequently organized teams in Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, New York, Reading, Pennsylvania; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, D.C. 	George Browne (baseball) George Edward Browne (January 12, 1876 – December 9, 1920) was an American professional baseball right fielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants, Boston Doves, Chicago Cubs, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, and Brooklyn Dodgers between 1901 and 1912. Biography Browne was born in Richmond, Virginia. Browne entered the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1901. Though he usually spent one or two seasons with a team, he remained with the New York Giants from 1902 to 1907. He was the National League leader in runs scored in 1904 with New York; runs were down across the league and Browne's 99 runs were the lowest total for a league leader until 1915. A member of the 1905 World Series champion Giants, Browne hit .227 with one RBI and two runs scored in the World Series. The league collapsed within two months of its creation from May 1 to June 24, 1912. The Rebels were managed by Alfred Newman and owned by Ernest Landgraf. 1912 standings In the United States Baseball League's only season, the Rebels finished 2nd in the league with a 15-11 record. The league had originally planned to have a 126-game season, but failed to have any team play 27 games. 	Big Jeff Pfeffer Francis Xavier "Big Jeff" Pfeffer (March 31, 1882 – December 19, 1954) was an American Major League pitcher from 1905 to 1911. He threw a no-hitter in 1907. He was the older brother of Jeff Pfeffer. Pfeffer attended the University of Illinois. He made his MLB debut on April 15, 1905 for the Chicago Cubs and had a 4-4 record for them that season. He missed out on the 1906 World Series, going to Boston, where he had his most active season with a record of 13-22 for the 1906 season. He finished second in the National League that season in complete games and strikeouts. Early the following season, Pfeffer pitched a no-hitter on May 8, 1907, with the Boston Doves defeating Cincinnati 6-0.
