Washington County Commuter Express
Washington County Commuter Express was a contracted transportation service that provided service between Milwaukee and Washington counties. WCCE, which was a partner in the Southeast Wisconsin Transit System, was funded by Washington County and operated by Riteway Transportation in Richfield, Wisconsin. Richfield is a village in Washington County, Wisconsin, and is on the edge of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area. United States. The population was 11,739 at the 2020 census. The unincorporated community of Hubertus, as well as the former communities of Pleasant Hill and Plat are located in the village, as well as the communities of Colgate and Lake Five, which are partially located in Richfield. History The Richfield area was originally inhabited by Native Americans, including the Menominee and Potawatomi peoples. Southeast Wisconsin Transit System
Southeast Wisconsin Transit System was a marketing partnership of five public transit agencies covering the Greater Milwaukee Area in the United States. These operators provided local or intercounty commuter service in the counties of Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, and Waukesha. Washington County and Ozaukee County were formerly a part of the partnership until 2023 and 2024 when their county boards respectively elected to discontinue their transit service without replacement. The partnership is not exclusive, each agency or company maintains separate marketing departments and advertising programs. West Bend is a city in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States, and its county seat. As of the 2020 census, the population was 31,752. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. History Early history and settlement Northeastern Washington County's earliest known inhabitants were pre-Columbian Mound Builders, who constructed effigy mounds in the area sometime between 650 Common Era, CE and 1300 CE. They were semi-nomadic and survived by hunting, fishing, and gathering wild plants. They made pottery and constructed tools from bone, wood, stone, and occasionally copper.
