Washed Ashore (film)
Washed Ashore is a project of the Artula Institute for Art and Environmental Education U.S. 501(c)(3) grassroots non-profit environmental organization that works to bring awareness to the world's growing plastic pollution problem through art. Washed Ashore is a large touring exhibit composed of massive sculptures made up of marine debris collected by volunteers primarily along the southern coast of Oregon. Angela Haseltine Pozzi is the founder and creative director. Plastic Pollution
Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g. plastic bottles, bags and microbeads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects humans, wildlife and their habitat. Plastics that act as pollutants are categorized by size into micro-, meso-, or macro debris. Plastics are inexpensive and durable, making them very adaptable for different uses; as a result, manufacturers choose to use plastic over other materials. However, the chemical structure of most plastics renders them resistant to many natural processes of environmental degradation, degradation and as a result they are slow to degrade. Together, these two factors allow large volumes of plastic to enter the environment as mismanaged waste which persists in the ecosystem and travels throughout food webs. An environmental organization is an organization coming out of the conservation or environmental movements that seeks to protect, analyse or monitor the environment against misuse or degradation from human forces. In this sense the environment may refer to the biophysical environment or the natural environment. Angela Haseltine Pozzi
Portland State University Angela Haseltine Pozzi (born 1957) is an American sculptor who uses recycled ocean plastic to create her work. She is also the founder and creative director of Washed Ashore. Her large-scale sculptures include a polar bear, puffin, jellyfish, and an octopus. Early life and education Angela Haseltine Pozzi was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1957. Pozzi was born into an artistic family and spent much of her early life on the shores of the Oregon coast. She attended the University of Utah earning a Bachelor's degree in education in 1984. In 1990, she received her Master's in Education from Portland State University, with an emphasis in Art Education. Career Pozzi was a teacher for 30 years. After the sudden death of her husband in 2002 she turned to the ocean for healing. SeaWorld is an American theme park chain with headquarters in Orlando, Florida. It is a proprietor of marine mammal parks, oceanariums, animal theme parks, and rehabilitation centers owned by United Parks & Resorts. The Marine Mammal Center
The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC) is a private, non-profit United States, U.S. organization that was established in 1975 for the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing marine mammals who are injured, sick or abandoned. Portland Community College (PCC) is a public community college in Portland, Oregon.
