Warren Griffin Wilson
Warren Griffin Wilson (June 14, 1934 – September 27, 2024), known professionally as Warren Wilson, was an American broadcast, radio, and wire service journalist. He was one of the first Black television journalists in Los Angeles, and earned the moniker, “America’s most surrendered newsman” for arranging fugitives wanted by local law enforcement and the FBI to surrender to him so that they could receive fair judicial treatment. During his four decade career, Wilson received multiple Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for his team reporting of the Rodney King beating and subsequent trial. Bethel, North Carolina
Bethel is a town in Pitt County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,373 at the 2020 census. The town is a part of the Greenville Metropolitan Area located in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. Confusingly, there are three other towns in the state named "Bethel." One is between Edenton and Hertford in the "Finger Counties" region in the northeastern corner of the state, another is in the north-central part, in Caswell County and the third is located in the Mountain Region of North Carolina, in Haywood County. There is also a community named Bethel located in Watauga County. History The area was settled before the American Civil War. KFWB (980 AM) is a commercial radio station in Los Angeles, California. KFWB is owned by Lotus Communications, and airs a classic regional Mexican music radio format. The station has a colorful history, being the radio voice of Warner Bros. Studios in the early days of broadcasting, and a long-time Group W (later CBS Radio) station from 1966 to 2016. It has kept the same call sign throughout its 100-year history. KFWB broadcasts with 5,000 watts of power from a non-directional antenna shared with KLAC on North Indiana Avenue near Lincoln Park in Eastside Los Angeles. Hillside Strangler
The Hillside Strangler, later the Hillside Stranglers, is the media epithet for one, later discovered to be two, American serial killers who terrorized Los Angeles, California, between October 1977 and February 1978, with the nicknames originating from the fact that many of the victims' bodies were discovered in the hills surrounding the city. One unusual twist to the investigation was the arrival in L.A. of a psychic from Berlin. Detective Bob Grogan was polite, but unenthusiastic, when the psychic wrote in German that they should be looking for two Italians, who were brothers, and aged about thirty-five. Yet this assessment proved to be a very good, if imperfect, guess. It was initially believed that only one person was responsible for the killings. Tom Bradley (mayor)
Thomas Bradley (December 29, 1917September 29, 1998) was an American politician, athlete, police officer, and lawyer who served as the 38th Mayor of Los Angeles from 1973 to 1993. Bradley was Los Angeles' first black mayor, first liberal mayor, and longest-serving mayor. A member of the Democratic Party, Bradley's multiracial liberal political coalition was a forerunner of future President of the United States Barack Obama's coalition in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. Bradley went to college at the University of California, Los Angeles, serving as captain of the track team. Bradley joined the Los Angeles Police Department after graduation.
