Edmond Warre
Edmond Warre (12 February 1837 – 22 January 1920) was an English rowing (sport), rower and List of head masters of Eton College, Head Master of Eton College from 1884 to 1905. Early life and education Warre was born in London, the son of Henry Warre, of Bindon House, near Milverton, Somerset. He was educated at Eton College, Eton, where he was an exact contemporary of Algernon Charles Swinburne, and then at Balliol College, Oxford, where he had a distinguished university career, taking a double first (1856 and 1859). He was an outstanding oarsman and at Eton he won the School Pulling for coxed pairs. At Oxford, he went Head of the River with Balliol in 1855 and 1859, won the University Sculls and Pairs in 1855-56 and the University Fours in 1856 and 1858, and was Oxford University Boat Club president in 1858. Émile Warré (9 May 1867 – 20 April 1951) was a French priest and beekeeper who published several books and invented the Warré Hive, also known as the People’s Hive. Biography Éloi François Émile Warré was born on 9 May 1867, in Grébault-Mesnil and died on 20 April 1951, in Tours. Francis Warre Warre-Cornish
Francis Warre Warre-Cornish (8 May 1839 – 28 August 1916) was a British schoolmaster, scholar and writer. Life He was the son of Hubert Kestell Cornish, vicar of Bakewell, and his wife Louisa Warre, daughter of Francis Warre (1775–1854), and was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He was a master (1861) and subsequently Vice-Provost of Eton, from 1893 to 1916. He resigned from Eton in April 1916 and died in August 1916. Warre-Cornish married Blanche Ritchie, who was celebrated for her conversational powers and eccentricities. By her, he was the father of the writer Mary (Molly) MacCarthy, known for her involvement in the Bloomsbury Group, and Gerald Warre-Cornish author of St Paul from the Trenches. Felix Warre
Felix Walter Warre, OBE, MC (1879–1953) was an English rower who won the Silver Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta. Warre was born at Eton the son of Edmond Warre. His father was headmaster of Eton College and a successful rower. Warre was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford. He rowed for Oxford in the Boat Race in 1898 and 1899. In 1901 he won the Silver Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta with J H Hale. In 1914 Warre joined the Royal Garrison Artillery and served in the First World War becoming a major. He was awarded the OBE in 1919. He was later a banker and then an auctioneer at Sotheby's going on to be chairman. Warre died at the age of 74. Warre married Marjory Monteith Hamilton (daughter of Vereker Monteith Hamilton), and had two sons and three daughters, Richard Patrick Warre who was killed at Calais in 1940, Michael Hugh Warre who was a famous stage actor and set designer, Ursula, Barbera and Griselda. Lieutenant-General Sir Henry James Warre (12 January 1819 – 3 April 1898) was a British Army officer. Early life Warre was born in Cape Town, Cape Colony, the son of Lieutenant-General Sir William Warre (1784–1853) and Selina Anna Maling, the youngest daughter of Christopher Thompson Maling. His father saw service in the Peninsular War as aide-de-camp to William Beresford, 1st Viscount Beresford. His mother's elder sister Sophia married Henry Phipps, 1st Earl of Mulgrave, and was the mother of Constantine Phipps, 1st Marquess of Normanby. He was baptised on his first birthday at St Nicholas Church, Brighton, Sussex. Military career Educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Warre was commissioned into the 54th Regiment of Foot in 1837. William Warre
Lieutenant-General Sir William Warre, (15 April 1784 – 26 July 1853) was an English officer of the British Army. He saw service in the Peninsular War and was colonel of the 94th Foot. Early life and education Warre was born in Porto, Portugal, the eldest son of wine merchant James Warre, a partner in Warre & Co., and his wife, Eleanor Greg, daughter of Thomas Greg of Belfast. The Warres had been settled in Porto for generations as exporters of the region's famed Port wine. The company is still operating as Warre's, and Sir William's portrait hangs in the city's famed Factory House. He was educated at Harrow School, but apparently left early to return to Portugal and join the family business. Warre Baronets
The Warre Baronetcy, of Hestercombe in the County of Somerset, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 2 June 1673 for Francis Warre, subsequently Member of Parliament for Bridgwater and Taunton. He was the only son of Sir John Warre, of Hestercombe House, Taunton, Somerset, a Knight of the Shire for Somerset.
