Warp (record Label)
Warp Records is a British independent record label that specialises in Electronic music, electronic, indie rock and experimental music. It was founded in Sheffield in 1989 by Steve Beckett, Robert Mitchell and Robert Gordon. It has released records by acts including Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher, Brian Eno, Broadcast (band), Broadcast, Flying Lotus, Maxïmo Park, !!!, Battles (band), Battles and Grizzly Bear (band), Grizzly Bear. Warp began as a record shop in 1987, and released its first record, "Track With No Name" by Gordon's band Forgemasters (band), Forgemasters, in 1989. In the early 1990s, Warp became associated with the UK's bleep techno, bleep scene, releasing music by acts such as LFO (British band), LFO, Sweet Exorcist (band), Sweet Exorcist and Nightmares on Wax. Downtown Music Holdings is an independent rights management and music services company based in the US State of New York. It comprises 10 businesses. All divisions live under the Downtown Music Holdings umbrella and are split between two verticals, Creator and Business (Downtown Music). Battles (band)
Battles is an American experimental rock group, founded in 2002 in New York City by Ian Williams (musician), Ian Williams (formerly of Don Caballero and Storm & Stress). The current line-up is a duo, composed of guitarist/keyboardist Williams and drummer John Stanier (drummer), John Stanier (formerly of Helmet (band), Helmet, Tomahawk (band), Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain (band), The Mark of Cain). Former members include composer/vocalist Tyondai Braxton and guitarist/bassist Dave Konopka. Chris Morris (satirist)
Christopher J. Morris (born 15 June 1962) is an English comedian, radio presenter, actor and filmmaker. Known for his deadpan, dark humour, surrealism and controversial subject matter, he has been praised by the British Film Institute for his "uncompromising, moralistic drive". Morris teamed up with his radio producer Armando Iannucci in the early 1990s to create '' On the Hour'', a satire of news programmes. A television spin off, '' The Day Today'', launched the career of comedian Steve Coogan and was hailed as one of the most important satirical shows of the 1990s. Morris further developed the satirical news format with ''Brass Eye'', which lampooned celebrities whilst focusing on themes such as crime and drugs. Chris Cunningham
Chris Cunningham (born 15 October 1970) is an English video artist and music video director who directed music videos for electronic musicians such as Autechre, Squarepusher, and Aphex Twin and Björk. Early in his career he worked as a comic book artist. He has created art installations and directed short movies. In the mid 2000s, Cunningham began doing music production work, and has also designed album artwork for a variety of musicians. Cunningham worked on a never completed movie adaptation of William Gibson's cyberpunk novel '' Neuromancer.'' His style is noted for its use of robotics, body horror and Mickey mousing (syncing action with music). Warp Films
Warp Films is an independent film and television production company based in Sheffield and London, England, UK. History 2001 – 2012 Warp Films was established by Warp Records founding partners Rob Mitchell and Steve Beckett. It was initially created with financial support from NESTA and had a remit to produce a number of short films. After the death of Rob Mitchell in 2001, Beckett decided to continue with Warp Films and enlisted the expertise of Sheffield friend Mark Herbert (who had just produced the critically acclaimed first series of Peter Kay's ''Phoenix Nights'' for Channel 4) to run the company. Neoclassical Music

''Artificial Intelligence'' is a compilation album released via Warp on 6 July 1992. It is the first release in Warp's ''Artificial Intelligence'' series. The album helped birth the genre that would later become known as intelligent dance music (IDM). Nightmares On Wax
George Herbert Evelyn (born 15 January 1970), better known by his stage name Nightmares on Wax or DJ E.A.S.E., is an English DJ and record producer from Leeds. His music has been released by Warp Records. He is based in Ibiza. Nightmares on Wax was originally a group consisting of Evelyn and John Halnon, and then later with Kevin Harper. Early life George Evelyn was born in Leeds. His father and sister introduced him to the soul music of Quincy Jones and Curtis Mayfield. Later, he was fascinated by hip hop tracks such as "Rapper's Delight" and " Buffalo Gals". Sweet Exorcist (band)
Sweet Exorcist were a British music duo consisting of Richard Barratt (DJ Parrot) and Richard H. Kirk. They were among the flagship bleep techno acts on Warp Records in the late 1980s. History Sweet Exorcist, which was named after a Curtis Mayfield track, was the project of Sheffield-based musicians Richard H. Kirk ( Cabaret Voltaire) and Richard ‘DJ Parrot’ Barratt (later a member of All Seeing I). Kirk and Barratt knew each other since the mid-1980s. Barratt had already supported a Cabaret Voltaire tour of the UK in 1986. By 1989, Cabaret Voltaire had wrapped up a contract with EMI and had effectively stopped working together. Kirk passed the time by going to clubs and working in the studio with Barratt, who at the time was running Sheffield's main club night, Jive Turkey. LFO (British Band)
LFO was a British electronic music act formed in 1988 consisting of Mark Bell and Gez Varley. They released their acclaimed debut LP ''Frequencies'' in 1991 on Sheffield label Warp. After Varley left the group in 1996, Bell continued solo to release '' Advance'' (1996) and '' Sheath'' (2003). Bell died in October 2014, ending the project. LFO are considered to be pioneers of the bass-heavy "bleep techno" style. AllMusic called them "one of British techno's most important, agenda-setting groups."
