The Ware Opening, also known as Meadow Hay Opening, is an uncommon chess opening for White beginning with the move: : 1. a4 It is named after Preston Ware, a U.S. chess player who often played uncommon openings. The Ware is considered an irregular opening; it is classified under the A00 code in the ''Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings''. Opening idea The Ware Opening attacks the b5-square and prepares to bring the a1-rook into the game. The b5-square is non-essential and if Black plays 1...e5, the f8-bishop prevents the development of the white rook for the moment. The Ware Group was a covert organization of Communist Party USA operatives within the United States government in the 1930s, run first by Harold Ware (1889–1935) and then by Whittaker Chambers (1901–1961) after Ware's accidental death on August 13, 1935. History Background Harold Ware founded this group under the auspices of J. Peters by Summer 1933. Ware was a Communist Party (CP) official working for the federal government in Washington, D.C. Wares (musical Group)
Wares is a Canadian musical project from Edmonton, Alberta, founded by Cassia Hardy in 2013. As of 2018, the live band consists of Hardy (vocals, guitar), Matthew Gooding (bass), Holly Greaves (drums) and Jamie McLean (keyboards). Wares has released one full-length album and four EPs. History Wares began performing concerts in Edmonton in 2013. In 2016, Wares released a 7-inch single, entitled "Missed the Point" on Sweety Pie Records. "Beach Date," the b-side to the single, was nominated for an Edmonton Music Award in 2017 under the category Indie Rock Recording of the Year. In 2017, Wares released their first full-length album, which was self-titled. Wares' debut album brought more attention to the project and BeatRoute praised Hardy's musicianship, noting that her "punk attitude meets skillful composition" on the album.
