Wardell (band)
Wardell is an indie folk rock band formed by siblings Sasha and Theo Spielberg. History Sasha and Theo Spielberg are siblings and children of director Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw. Theo's adoptive father is Jewish, and his adoptive mother is a convert to Judaism; both are Sasha's biological parents. They performed together as kids in puppet shows and cover bands but only began their band in earnest in 2010, with live shows starting in 2012. They started collaborating in college, when Theo asked Sasha to sing over a chord progression he had been working on, which became the song "Opossum" and was named an NPR Song of the Day in late 2011. Sasha has said the duo created the song quickly, "like, in an hour". The song brought the band national exposure and led to their signing with Roc Nation. Indie Folk
Indie folk is a music genre that arose in the 1990s among musicians from indie rock scenes influenced by folk music. Indie folk hybridizes the acoustic guitar melodies of traditional folk music with contemporary instrumentation. The genre has its earliest origins in 1990s folk artists who displayed alternative rock influences in their music, such as Ani DiFranco and Dan Bern, and acoustic artists such as Elliott Smith and Will Oldham. In the following decade, labels such as Saddle Creek, Barsuk, Ramseur, and Sub Pop helped to provide support to indie folk, with artists such as Fleet Foxes breaking into the pop charts with albums such as '' Helplessness Blues''. Pearl (Janis Joplin Album)
''Pearl'' is the second and final solo album (and fourth album overall) by Janis Joplin, released on January 11, 1971, three months after her death on October 4, 1970. It was the final album with her direct participation, and the only Joplin album recorded with the Full Tilt Boogie Band, her final touring unit. It peaked at number one on the ''Billboard'' 200, holding that spot for nine weeks. It has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA. Content The album has a more polished feel than the albums she recorded with Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Kozmic Blues Band due to the expertise of producer Paul A. Rothchild and her new backing musicians. Rothchild was best-known as the recording studio producer of The Doors, and worked well with Joplin, calling her a producer's dream.
