Wanda Tuchock
Wanda Tuchock (March 20, 1898 – February 10, 1985) was an American advertising copywriter, screenwriter, director, and producer during the early 20th century. She was credited with writing for over thirty films, and was one of the at least three women in the 1930s to be credited as a director on a Hollywood film. Early life Tuchock was born on March 20, 1898, in Pueblo, Colorado. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles. Career Tuchock began her career as an advertising copy editor. In 1927, at the age of 30, she entered the silent film industry. She only had one silent film credit; she was "one of the few women who began her career in the silent era and was able to maintain her career in Hollywood during the early sound years". She was one of the few female screenwriters who worked at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the early 1930s. It is based on the comic strip ''Little Orphan Annie'' by Harold Gray. The film stars Mitzi Green, Buster Phelps, May Robson, Matt Moore, and Edgar Kennedy. The film was released on November 4, 1932, by RKO Pictures. Plot As Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks leaves town to find gold, Annie and Sandy find a little boy named Mickey, crying behind a fence. Mickey is upset because his grandmother died, and he is being forced to go to an orphanage. Annie talks to Mickey about her own experience of being in an orphanage, and after she leaves, Mickey sneaks out the orphanage and follows Annie. ''Show People'' is a 1928 American synchronized sound comedy film directed by King Vidor. While the film has no audible dialog, it was released with a synchronized musical score with sound effects using both the sound-on-disc and sound-on-film process. The film was a starring vehicle for actress Marion Davies and actor William Haines and included notable cameo appearances by many of the film personalities of the day, including stars Charlie Chaplin (who appears twice), Douglas Fairbanks, William S. The Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) is a charitable organization that offers assistance and care to those in the motion picture and television industries and their families with limited or no resources, including services such as temporary financial assistance, case management, and residential living. Screen Writers Guild
The Screen Writers Guild was an organization of Hollywood screenplay authors, formed as a union in 1933. A rival organisation, Screen Playwrights, Inc., was established by the AMPP, film studios and producers, but after an appeal to the National Labor Relations Board and a vote by eligible screenwriters, the Screenwriters Guild won out as the sole representative body.
