Walter Thiele
Walter Thiele (born 16 February 1921) is a German inventor. He is credited with over 1600 inventions. He became a millionaire with his invention of the '' Lachsack'' ("Laugh in a Bag"). Life In the mid-1960s, the Wienerwald restaurant chain had artificial parrots developed for advertising, which croaked "today the kitchen stays cold, we go to the Wienerwald". The inventor of this parrot was Walter Thiele, who had inserted a battery-powered miniature record player in the parrot. Soon, however, Wienerwald boss Friedrich Jahn did not like the parrots and rejected them. Thiele's attempts to offer his parrots at inventor's fairs also failed. When nobody at the 1968 Brussels Inventors' Fair was interested he tore open the parrot in frustration and put the record player in an old sock with a record of laughter. Lachsack
A Lachsack (German, literally "laugh bag") is a novelty toy consisting of a small cloth bag containing a plastic box with a push button that, when pressed, plays recorded laughter. The Lachsack was invented in 1968 by German inventor Walter Thiele. It was the most successful of about 1,600 items he invented. The device originated from a talking parrot soft toy that he produced for the Wienerwald restaurant chain. When the company rejected the parrot, Thiele placed its miniature battery-driven record player into a sock, replacing the disk recording with one of laughter and named it the ''Lachsock'' (laugh sock). The ''Lachsock'' was successful. Thiele developed the concept by staging a laughing contest and using a recording of the winner's laughter in the redesigned ''Lachsack'' in which the sock was replaced by a small sack. Wienerwald (restaurant)
Wienerwald GmbH is a German chain of franchised fast food restaurants, specializing in chicken – especially hendl (a type of roast chicken), schnitzel, and other similar products. The name means ''Vienna Woods''. As of 2022 there are five Wienerwald restaurants in Germany and three in Egypt. Previously, the company had also operated in Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. History Founded in 1955 by Linz restaurateur Friedrich Jahn (1923 – 1998) in Munich, Wienerwald rapidly grew to become Europe's largest restaurant chain with more than 1600 restaurants in 1978.
