Walter Solek
Walter Solek or Walt Solek (September 28, 1910 – April 1, 2005) was a Polish-American lyricist, musician, performer, and radio show host who introduced English-language lyrics into polka music in the United States. Polish Americans () are Americans who either have total or partial Polish ancestry, or are citizens of the Republic of Poland. There are an estimated 8.81 million self-identified Polish Americans, representing about 2.67% of the U.S. population, according to the 2021 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau. The first eight Polish immigrants to British America came to the Jamestown colony in 1608, twelve years before the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts. Two Polish volunteers, Casimir Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko, aided the Americans in the Revolutionary War. Casimir Pulaski created and led the Pulaski Legion of cavalry. Starr Records
Starr Records was a record label founded by the Starr Piano Company of Richmond, Indiana. Gennett Records was also owned by Starr Piano. Starr's first discs were vertical cut records in the mid 1910s based on Edison Records standard found in the Edison Disc Record. They were discontinued in 1917. The Starr label was continued through much of the 1920s in Canada, pressed and distributed by Compo Company Ltd., mostly issuing sides that were released in the U.S. on Gennett. An unrelated Starr Records made records in Australia which were sold in the Coles chain. Matys Brothers
The Matys Brothers were an American lounge act made up of four singing comedians. All four were born and raised in Chester, in the Philadelphia area . The quartet's first record, "Muskrat Ramble," that was released on the Essex Records label, became a big hit in 1954, and by 1956 the group was part of Bill Haley's talent and booking stable and recording for Decca Records. The members of the band were Emil on saxophone, John on bass and violin, Gene on drums, and Walt on accordion.
