Walter Sinz
Walter A. Sinz (July 13, 1881 – 1966) was an American sculptor born in Cleveland, Ohio. Thompson Trophy
The Thompson Trophy race was one of the National Air Races of the heyday of early airplane racing in the 1930s. Established in 1929, the last race was held in 1961. The race was long with pylons marking the turns, and emphasized low altitude flying and maneuverability at high speeds. As the race was flown around a closed course, crowds in the grandstands could easily see much of the spectacle. There were two series of Thompson races. The first series followed the award of a "Thompson Cup" in the 1929 National Air Races to the winner of the "International Land Plane Free-For-All" (that is, the unlimited class race). Thompson Products (a predecessor to TRW) decided to sponsor a trophy to be awarded for the next ten years for unlimited class racing (though a stipulation was eventually added excluding women pilots). The Cleveland Institute of Art, previously Cleveland School of Art, is a private college focused on art and design and located in Cleveland, Ohio. History The college was founded in 1882 as the Western Reserve School of Design for Women, at first attended by one teacher and one pupil in the sitting room of its founder, Sarah Kimball. The school moved several times, first to the attic of the Old Cleveland City Hall, then to the Old Kelly homestead on Wilson Avenue (now East 55th Street). Having become a co-educational school, it was renamed the Cleveland School of Art in 1892. After unsuccessful attempts to merge the school with Western Reserve University, the school became independent. Cowan Pottery
The Cowan Pottery Studio was founded by R. Guy Cowan in Lakewood, Ohio, United States in 1912. Cowan Pottery Studio mainly produced architectural tiles, but also created a line of bowls and vases called "Lakewood Ware." History R. Guy Cowan first opened Cowan Pottery Studio in Lakewood, Ohio in 1912 and the studio produced architectural tiles and Lakewood Wares. Cowan Pottery produced both artistic and commercial work in a variety of styles. His pottery was influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Deco designs, Chinese ceramics, and modern sculpture designs.
