Walter Lawrence (Australian Politician)
Walter Richard Lawrence (3 January 1895 – 24 March 1966) was an Australian politician. He was the Liberal member for Drummoyne in the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1956 to 1962. Lawrence was born at Lawsons Creek, near Mudgee in New South Wales, to farmer Charles Lawrence and Esther Barton. He grew up on his parents' farm, and in 1914 enlisted in the AIF, serving until 1918. In August 1918 he married Alethia James, with whom he had four children. Also in that year he was employed at Ellerslie station, between Adelong and Tarcutta, of which he was manager from 1919 to 1922. He later joined the police force, rising to become Superintendent of the traffic branch and Deputy Commissioner. He retired from the force in 1954. He was briefly a member of Drummoyne Council in 1966. Lawrence was also a Methodist lay preacher, and was president of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Walter Nicholas Murray Lawrence (8 February 1935 – 15 November 2021) was an English first-class cricketer and financier. Early life and career Born at Marylebone to Henry Walter Neville Lawrence (son of Sir Walter Roper Lawrence, 1st Baronet,) and his wife, Sarah Butler, he was educated at Sandroyd School and then Winchester College, before going up to Trinity College, Oxford. As an undergraduate he made his debut in first-class cricket for Oxford University against Middlesex at Oxford in 1954. He made two further first-class appearances in 1954, playing once more for Oxford University against Hampshire County Cricket Club, and for the Free Foresters ''against'' Oxford University. He was also a Member of Marylebone Cricket Club. After graduating from Oxford, Lawrence pursued a career in insurance underwriting. He served as Chairman of Lloyd's of London from 1988–1990. Surgical Oncology
Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology; it focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. As one of several modalities in the management of cancer, the specialty of surgical oncology has evolved in steps similar to medical oncology ( pharmacotherapy for cancer), which grew out of hematology, and radiation oncology, which grew out of radiology. The Ewing Society known today as the Society of Surgical Oncology was started by surgeons interested in promoting the field of oncology. Complex General Surgical Oncology was ratified by a specialty Board certification in 2011 from the American Board of Surgery. The proliferation of cancer centers will continue to popularize the field, as will developments in minimally invasive techniques, palliative surgery, and neo-adjuvant treatments. Walter Roper Lawrence
Sir Walter Roper Lawrence, 1st Baronet, (9 February 1857 – 25 May 1940) was a member of the British Council of India and an English author who served in the Indian Civil Service in British India and wrote travelogues based on his experiences of travelling around the Indian Subcontinent. Over the course of his travels, he developed a close affinity with the Indian and Kashmiri people, who figure prominently in his work. His best-known books are ''The Valley of Kashmir'' (1895) and ''The India we Served'' (1929). Walter Roper Lawrence was born on 9 February 1857 at his home town Moreton-on-Lugg, Herefordshire, England, the son of George Lawrence and Catherine Lewis.
