Walter Lamb (classicist)
Sir Walter Rangeley Maitland Lamb Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, KCVO (5 January 1882 – 27 March 1961) was a British classical lecturer, author and translator. He was Secretary of the Royal Academy from 1913 to 1951. Born in Adelaide, Australia, to the British mathematician Horace Lamb and Elizabeth Foot, his siblings included the painter Henry Lamb and the archaeologist Dorothy Lamb. His nephew was the climatologist Hubert Lamb and his great-nephew was the Liberal Democrats (UK), Liberal Democrat politician Norman Lamb. He was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO), and on 1 January 1943, a Knight Commander of the Order (KCVO). The Royal Victorian Order () is a dynastic order of knighthood established in 1896 by Queen Victoria. It recognises distinguished personal service to the monarch, members of the royal family, or to any viceroy or senior representative of the monarch. The present monarch, King Charles III, is the sovereign of the order. The order's motto is ''Victoria.'' The order's official day is 20 June. The order's chapel is the Savoy Chapel in London. There is no limit on the number of individuals honoured at any grade. Admission is at the sole discretion of the monarch. Each of the order's five grades represent different levels of service, as does the medal, which has three levels of service. Norman Lamb
Sir Norman Peter Lamb (born 16 September 1957) is a British politician and solicitor. He was the Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament (MP) for North Norfolk from 2001 to 2019, and was the chair of the Science and Technology Select Committee from 2017 to 2019. Lamb was a candidate in the 2015 Liberal Democrats leadership election. He served most recently as Minister of State for Care and Support in the Department of Health, and previously as Minister of State for Employment Relations in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and earlier as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg in the Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition Government. Hubert Lamb
Hubert Horace Lamb (22 September 1913 in Bedford – 28 June 1997 in Holt, Norfolk, Holt, Norfolk) was an English climatologist who founded the Climatic Research Unit in 1972 in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia. Career Most of Lamb's scientific life was spent at the Met Office, Meteorological Office, UK, where he started as a Technical Officer progressing by special merit promotion. As a Quaker and conscientious objector, Lamb refused to work on the meteorology of gas spraying during World War II, and was transferred to the Irish Meteorological Service, then still closely associated with the UK Met Office. On returning to the UK service after the war his responsibilities were in the fields of long range weather forecasting, world climatology and climate change.
