Walter The Whale
Walter the Whale (Skana) was a star orca (killer whale) during the early era of captive orcas in the 1960s. In 1967, following the death of Namu, the only other established star orca was Shamu. Walter the Whale was the orca's advertised name at first, but she was later renamed Skana. Walter was captured from K Pod of the southern resident orcas in 1967 by Ted Griffin, and shipped to the Seattle Public Aquarium. Soon the orca was transported by truck to Vancouver in a rental arrangement with boat show producer Bob O'Loughlin. ''The Province'' reported that due to public curiosity about "the background of killer whales," Walter was the "biggest draw" of the 1967 Vancouver Boat Show, held at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) grounds. Diophantus is a Lunar craters, lunar impact crater that lies in the southwestern part of the Mare Imbrium, named after the ancient Greek mathematician Diophantus. It forms a pair with the larger crater Delisle (crater), Delisle to the north, has a wide inner wall and a low central rise. Walter Township is a township in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 186 at the 2000 census. Walter Township was organized in 1884, and named for Henry Walter, a pioneer settler. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 29.0 square miles (75.2 km), all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 186 people, 70 households, and 55 families residing in the township. The population density was 6.4 people per square mile (2.5/km).
