Walter Butler Cheadle
Walter Butler Cheadle (October 1836, Colne, Lancashire – 22 March 1910, London) was an English paediatrician. Cheadle was educated at Caius College, Cambridge, graduating M.B. in 1861 and then studied medicine at St George's Hospital Medical School in London. He interrupted his studies in 1861 to join Lord Milton on an expedition to explore Western Canada (1862–1864), and then on to China. Arriving in Quebec City in July 1862, they travelled across the continent, wintering near Fort Carlton. After a challenging and at times humorous summer they reached Victoria, BC. Together with William Fitzwilliam (Viscount Milton), Cheadle travelled up the Athabasca River and in 1863 they became the first "tourists" to travel through the Yellowhead Pass. Cheadle is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Wheatland County. It is located on Highway 24, south of the Highway 1 and approximately east of the City of Calgary. Blue River is a small community of 175 residents at the 2021 census in British Columbia, situated on Highway 5 about halfway between Kamloops and Jasper, Alberta It is located at the confluence of the Blue and North Thompson Rivers. The local economy is supported by logging, tourism and transportation industries. Geography Blue River lies in a wide, gravelly part of the North Thompson River valley. Its podzolic soils are strongly acidic and coarse, with abundant sand, gravel and stones. Drainage is not as rapid as would be expected from the soils' coarse texture because the subsoils tend to be cemented. The forests and mountains around Blue River have plentiful big game such as deer, moose, black and grizzly bears, and caribou. Birds include osprey, eagles, woodpeckers and ravens. North Thompson River
The North Thompson River is the northern branch of the Thompson River, the largest tributary of the Fraser River, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It originates at the toe of the Thompson Glacier in the Premier Range of the Cariboo Mountains, west of the community of Valemount. The river flows generally south through the Shuswap Highland towards Kamloops where it joins the South Thompson River to form the main stem Thompson River.
