Leominster (UK Parliament Constituency)
Leominster was a parliamentary constituency represented until 1707 in the House of Commons of England, then until 1801 in that of Great Britain, and finally until 2010, when it disappeared in boundary changes, in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. From 1295 to 1885, Leominster was a parliamentary borough which until 1868 elected two Members of Parliament by the bloc vote system of election. Under the Reform Act 1867 its representation was reduced to one Member, elected by the first past the post system. The parliamentary borough was abolished under the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885, and the name was transferred to a new county constituency. Walter Aston (MP For Staffordshire)
Sir Walter Aston, DL, JP (1 October 1530 – 1589), of Tixall and Heywood, Staffordshire, was a Knight of the Shire and Sheriff of Staffordshire. Biography Walter Aston was born on 1 October 1530. He was the first son of Sir Edward Aston of Tixall and Heywood and his second wife, Jane, the daughter of Sir Thomas Bowles of Penhow Castle, Monmouthshire. He succeeded to his father's estates on 8 September 1568. Aston was a Knight of the Shire for the constituency of Staffordshire in the Parliament of March 1553 for 31 days—this was his only parliamentary experience. He was knighted on 18 July 1560 by the 4th Duke of Norfolk for his service at the siege of Leith in that year. He was Sheriff of Staffordshire twice for a year starting in 1570 and again in 1580. Walter Aston (c.1706–1739) was a British stage actor of the eighteenth century. He was the son of the actor Anthony Aston, and he began as a child actor in his father's productions where he was often billed as Aston Junior. His earliest role was probably in Dublin, and he toured Britain with his parents. From at least 1732 he joined John Rich's company at Covent Garden Theatre where he worked until 1738. Walter Aston, 1st Lord Aston of Forfar (baptised 9 July 1584 – 13 August 1639) was an English courtier and diplomat. Life Aston was born in Staffordshire, England, about 1584; he was a son of Sir Edward Aston of Tixall and his second wife Anne Lucy Barnes of Charlecote Park, daughter of Sir Thomas Lucy. On his father's death (1 February 1597) Edward Coke, the Attorney General, was appointed his guardian, by Lord Burghley, master of the Court of Wards. In 1603, at the coronation of King James I of England, Aston was honoured with the Order of the Bath at which Michael Drayton the poet acted as his esquire (Aston had become his patron and between 1602 and 1607 Drayton dedicated five of his works to Sir Walter). Walter Aston, 2nd Lord Aston of Forfar (6 April 1609 – 23 April 1678) was the second and eldest surviving son of Walter Aston, 1st Lord Aston of Forfar, and Gertrude Sadleir, daughter of Sir Thomas Sadleir of Standon, Hertfordshire, and his second wife Gertrude Markham. Walter Aston, 4th Lord Aston of Forfar (1660 or 1661 – 4 April 1748) was the eldest surviving son of Walter Aston, 3rd Lord Aston of Forfar, and his first wife Eleanor Blount of Soddington, daughter of Sir Walter Blount, 1st Baronet. Biography In 1714, he succeeded his father as Lord Aston of Forfar in the peerage of Scotland. Despite the title, they were a Staffordshire family whose seat was at Tixall. He married Lady Mary Howard, daughter of Lord Thomas Howard and Mary Savile, and sister of Thomas Howard, 8th Duke of Norfolk and Edward Howard, 9th Duke of Norfolk, by whom he had five sons and six daughters, most of whom died in infancy. She died in 1723 during the birth of their 11th child, James, who would succeed him as Lord Aston of Forfar.
