Walser People
The Walser people are the speakers of the Walser German dialects, a variety of Highest Alemannic. They inhabit the region of the Alps of Swiss Alps, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, as well as the fringes of Italy and Austria. The Walser people are named after the Valais, Wallis (Valais), the uppermost Rhône valley, where they settled from roughly the 10th century in the late phase of the migration of the Alamanni, crossing from the Bernese Oberland; because of linguistic differences among the Walser dialects, it is supposed that there were two independent immigration routes. From the upper Wallis, they began to spread south, west and east between the 12th and 13th centuries, in the so-called Walser migrations (''Walserwanderungen''). The causes of these further population movements, the last wave of settlement in the higher valleys of the Alps, are not entirely clear. George Walser
George Henry Walser (May 26, 1834 – May 1, 1910) was an American lawyer and politician. Walser was born in Dearborn County, Indiana on May 26, 1834. In 1856, he was admitted to the Illinois bar. He served in the 12th Illinois Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War and was commissioned a lieutenant colonel. He then moved to Barton County, Missouri and continued to practice law in Lamar, Missouri. Walser was an agnostic and a supporter of the writer Robert G. Ingersoll. Walser founded the community of Liberal, Missouri in Barton County. Ulrich And Anton Walser
Ulrich Walser and Anton Walser were Swiss-born American builders. They were two of six Walser brothers who immigrated to the United States from Haldenstein, Gaubuenden, Switzerland. One or both of them built most of the frame houses in Alma, Wisconsin that have Queen Anne style elements. A number of their works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Samuel Walser (born June 5, 1992) is a Swiss professional ice hockey center. He is currently playing for HC Fribourg-Gottéron of Switzerland's National League (NL). Robert Walser
Robert Walser (15 April 1878 – 25 December 1956) was a German language Swiss writer. He additionally worked as a copyist, an inventor's assistant, a butler, and in various other low-paying trades. Despite marginal early success in his literary career, the popularity of his work gradually diminished over the second and third decades of the 20th century, making it increasingly difficult for him to support himself through writing. He eventually had a nervous breakdown and spent the remainder of his life in sanatoriums. Life and work 1878–1897 Walser was born into a family with many children. Martin Johannes Walser (; 24 March 1927 – 26 July 2023) was a German writer, known especially as a novelist. He began his career as journalist for ''Süddeutscher Rundfunk'', where he wrote and directed audio plays. He was a member of Group 47 from 1953 on. His first novel, ''Marriage in Philippsburg'', a satirical portrait of postwar society, became a success in 1957. Walser then turned to freelance writing. Karl Edmund Walser (April 8, 1877, Teufen - September 28, 1943, Bern) was a Swiss painter, stage designer, illustrator, muralist, and artist. He was the older brother, by one year, of the writer Robert Walser, and provided illustrations for Robert's first book ''Fritz Kocher's Aufsätze'' (1904).
