Wally The Walrus
Wally the Walrus, also known as Wally the Wandering Walrus, is a male Walrus, arctic walrus who attracted much media attention for appearing, and hauling out, during 2021 in several locations across the coast of western Europe, mainly Ireland and Great Britain, Britain, far away from the Walrus#Ecology, typical range of a walrus. He is estimated to weigh around . Biography Wally is thought to have first appeared in March 2021, on Valentia Island, County Kerry, Ireland. Days later, he was spotted in Wales near Broad Haven South beach, Pembrokeshire. Wally was then seen basking on the Tenby Lifeboat Station, RNLI lifeboat slipway in Tenby. While in Tenby, Wally would regularly sunbathe on the lifeboat slipway, causing problems when the lifeboat needed to be deployed. The local lifeboat crew used several methods to deter him, on one occasion using an Air horn, airhorn. Wally also sank a dinghy and attempted to board a fishing boat in Tenby Harbour. Pickled Cucumber
A pickled cucumber – commonly known as a pickle in the United States, Canada and Australia and a gherkin ( ) in Britain, Ireland, South Africa, and New Zealand – is a usually small or miniature cucumber that has been Pickling, pickled in a Brine (food), brine, vinegar, or other solution and left to ferment. The fermentation process is executed either by immersing the cucumbers in an acidic solution or through souring by lacto-fermentation. Pickled cucumbers are often part of mixed pickles. Historical origins It is often claimed that pickled cucumbers were first developed for workers building the Great Wall of China, though another hypothesis is that they were first made as early as 2030 BC in the Tigris Valley of Mesopotamia, using cucumbers brought originally from India. According to the New York Food Museum, archaeologists believe ancient Mesopotamians pickled food as far back as 2400 B.C. while, centuries later, cucumbers native to India were being pickled in the Tig ... The Wallies Of Wessex
The Wallies of Wessex were a group of people who squatted on ground close to Stonehenge in 1974. The Department of the Environment and the National Trust landowners started court proceedings to have the squatters evicted. The squatters, both to make a counter culture point and to protect themselves from court costs, all used aliases in court that included the name Wally. They lost the case and had to move a few feet to an alternative site, but the case was reported in the national press. The Wallies were involved in the organisation of the 1976 Trentishoe Whole Earth Fair. Aftermath Nigel Ayers states that largely through later publications by Penny Rimbaud of the punk band Crass, the name `Wally' became increasingly identified with one man, Wally Hope Philip Alexander Grahame Russell (9 August 1947 – 3 September 1975), known as Wally Hope, was an experimental philosopher of the UK Underground and organiser of the Windsor Free Festival and the Stonehenge Free Festival. The Wally
''The Wally'' is the trophy awarded to winners of an NHRA national event. They have been handed out at national events starting with the 1969 NHRA race season. With an antique brass plating over a standard metal mix and a solid walnut base, the "Wally" (named after NHRA founder Wally Parks) is 18 inches tall and weighs 12 pounds. Contrary to popular belief, the Wally trophy does not feature Parks himself, but is rather modeled after Top Gas racer Jack JoneAccording to the June 30, 1995 edition of National Dragster, in early 1969 Jack Jones was at his day job, and got a call from Wally Parks. Parks asked him if he would be willing to pose for pictures for a trophy at Pomona Raceway. Pomona is a 16 minute ride from Glendora where the NHRA is based. Jack agreed and a number of pictures were snapped, including the now iconic photo of him with his safety equipment and a tire. Later that year, the famous Wally trophy was introduced. It is the same design as in 1969. Background The NHR ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Wally's
Wally's is a small American chain of convenience stores and gas stations. Established in 2020, the chain currently has two locations in the Midwestern United States. History The idea of the Wally's business had originated in 2017 when cousins Michael Rubenstein and Chad Wallis of rural Missouri were experiencing an unexciting drive home from Colorado and came up with the proposal for their own convenience store and gas station that would serve as a tourist attraction for travelers. Rubenstein had worked in the real estate and supply logistics industries while Wallis had experience in operating convenience stores and gas stations and, with their combined experience, would subsequently create plans for their business. The first Wally's location was opened along Interstate 55 in Pontiac, Illinois in September 2020 after its initial plans to open on Independence Day were delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The travel center covers a total area around , with a 76 fuel pump ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
