Valais
Valais ( , ; ), more formally, the Canton of Valais or Wallis, is one of the cantons of Switzerland, 26 cantons forming the Switzerland, Swiss Confederation. It is composed of thirteen districts and its capital and largest city is Sion, Switzerland, Sion. Valais is situated in the southwestern part of the country. The Pennine Alps (, , , ), sometimes referred to as the Valais Alps (which are just the Northern Swiss part of the Pennine Alps), are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps. They are located in Italy (the Aosta Valley and Piedmont) and Switzerland (Valais). The Pennine Alps are amongst the three highest major subranges of the Alps, together with the Bernese Alps and the Graian Alps that include the Mont Blanc massif. Walser German () and Walliser German (, locally ) are a group of Highest Alemannic dialects spoken in parts of Switzerland (Valais, Ticino, Grisons), Italy (Piedmont, Aosta Valley), Liechtenstein (Triesenberg, Planken), and Austria (Vorarlberg). Usage of the terms Walser and Walliser has come to reflect a difference of geography, rather than language. The term ''Walser'' refers to those speakers whose ancestors migrated into other Alpine valleys in medieval times, whereas ''Walliser'' refers only to a speaker from Upper Valais – that is, the upper Rhone valley. In a series of migrations during the Late Middle Ages, people migrated out of the Upper Valais, across the higher valleys of the Alps. Cole Walliser is a Canadian filmmaker and music video director best known as the operator of the Glambot high speed camera. He has directed videos for Miley Cyrus, P!nk, Katy Perry, and Laura Marano. Life and career Cole Walliser was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in Richmond, British Columbia. He is an alumnus from the University of British Columbia, with a B.A. in Psychology. Walliser began his interest in filming by making skateboarding videos at the age of 14. He also made a short film about the first day of high school which is still used by Hugh McRoberts High School, where he attended. He decided to pursue directing as a career and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 24. His work began with shooting professional dancer friends on a pro-bono basis. Maria Walliser
Maria Walliser (born 27 May 1963) is a Swiss former alpine skiing, alpine skier. Career Walliser grew up in Mosnang, the daughter of a wealthy cattle breeder. She made her World Cup debut in 1980. Together with her fellow Swiss Erika Hess, Michela Figini and Vreni Schneider she dominated female alpine skiing during the 1980s. Among her many successes, she won two overall FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cups (1986 and 1987). Walliser also won three world titles in 1987 and 1989, as well as three Olympic medals at 1988 Winter Olympics, 1988 Calgary and 1984 Winter Olympics, 1984 Sarajevo. Walliser retired in 1990 with a World Cup tally of 72 podium finishes, including 25 victories. In 2000, she became president of "Die Stiftung Folsäure Offensive Schweiz", a Swiss health organization fighting folate deficiency.
