Wallace Smith (boxer)
Wallace "Bud" Smith (April 2, 1924 – July 10, 1973) was an list of undisputed world boxing champions#Lightweight, Undisputed World lightweight boxing champion in 1955, who also competed in the 1948 Olympic Games. His trainer was John Joiner of Cincinnati, and his manager was Vic Marsillo. Smith was murdered in 1973. Amateur career Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Smith was the 1947 A.A.U. Featherweight Champion. He won Chicago's 1948 lightweight Golden Gloves inter-city tournament with a furious attack against Luis Ortiz, achieving a knockout in 2:45 of the second round. He represented the United States at the 1948 Summer Olympics, 1948 Olympic Games in the lightweight division. Smith defeated Chuck Davey of Michigan State College, Michigan State University, to earn a spot on the team. On August 24, 1949, he defeated Joe Discepoli in a ten-round unanimous decision in Cincinnati to take the USA Ohio State Lightweight Championship. Wallace Smith (footballer)
Wallace Smith (1881 – July 1917), also known as Wally Smith, was an English footballer who played for six clubs during his career, including three league clubs. Smith was born in Coventry in 1881. He moved to Northamptonshire with his family when he was five years old. He returned to West Yorkshire when he started his playing with Rothwell Town, where he was their leading goal-scorer. He moved on to Kettering Town where he continued to find the net, scoring 23 goals in his third and final season. He moved on to Southern League side Northampton Town in 1904 for one season. He was then signed for £50 in March 1905 (equivalent to £5,062.11 in March 2024) by Bradford City. He scored the only goal on his debut in a 1–0 win over Leeds City on 2 September 1905, finishing the 1905–06 season as top goal-scorer with 20 goals, including a goal in the 5–0 victory against First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup. Wallace Smith (December 30, 1888 - January 31, 1937) was an American book illustrator, comic artist, reporter, author, and screenwriter. Biography Born in Chicago in 1888, Smith became Washington correspondent for the ''Chicago American'' at the age of 20, remaining with that newspaper for over a decade. According to the book ''The Madhouse on Madison Street,'' Smith was "one of the most colorful reporters who ever worked for the Hearst papers," and was born with the last name of Schmidt, which he changed to Smith during World War I. He was sent to Mexico and did illustrated reporting on several campaigns of Pancho Villa against the Venustiano Carranza, Carranza regime. In 1920 he originated the Joe Blow comic panel feature for the ''Chicago American''. In 1921-22 he was assigned to California to cover the Roscoe Arbuckle trials and the William Desmond Taylor murder case.
