''Walking on a Dream'' is the debut studio album by Australian electronic music duo Empire of the Sun, released on 3 October 2008 by Capitol Records. The album was produced by band members Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, along with Peter Mayes and Donnie Sloan. It was recorded and mixed by Peter Mayes at Soundworks Music Studio in Sydney at various times throughout 2007, with additional recording by Chris Vallejo at Linear Recording, also in Sydney. In 2010, the song “Half Mast” was sampled on rapper Mac Miller’s song “The Spins”, which was featured on his breakout mixtape '' K.I.D.S.''. " Walking on a Dream" was released on 30 August 2008 as the album's lead single, going on to be the Empire of the Sun's biggest hit worldwide. The second single, " We Are the People", was released on 20 September 2008. Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music duo formed in 2007. The duo is a collaboration between Luke Steele (musician), Luke Steele, formerly of alternative rock band The Sleepy Jackson, and Nick Littlemore, of electronic dance band Pnau. Luke Steele (musician)
Luke James Steele (born 13 December 1979) is a New Zealand–born Australian musician, singer and songwriter. Steele is the vocalist and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band the Sleepy Jackson and is a member of the electronic music duo Empire of the Sun (band), Empire of the Sun. Early life Steele was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 13 December 1979. His family then moved to Perth, Western Australia. Luke attended Yokine Primary School and Mount Lawley Senior High School. Personal life Steele is a member of a musical family. His father, Rick, was a blues guitarist and harmonica player. Steele's sister, Katy Steele, Katy, was the vocalist of Perth, Western Australia, Perth indie rock band Little Birdy. Steele's younger brother Jake performs under the moniker Tobacco Rat. ''The 100 Best Australian Albums'' (a.k.a. ''One Hundred Best Australian Albums'') is a compendium of rock and pop albums of the past 50 years as compiled by music journalists Toby Creswell, Craig Mathieson and John O'Donnell. The book was published on 25 October 2010 by Hardie Grant Books (Prahran, Victoria). Sony Music has released a five CD compilation to support the book. The 23rd Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAs) took place on 26 November 2009 at the Acer Arena at the Sydney Olympic Park complex. The Official Albums Chart is the United Kingdom's industry-recognised national record chart for album, albums. Entries are ranked by sales and audio streaming. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on ''UKChartsPlus'' as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders.
