Lake Walker
Lake Walker is a lake in Quebec, Canada. It is located in the Sept-Rivières Regional County Municipality in the region of Côte-Nord, about 30 km northwest of Port-Cartier. Location Lake Walker is within the Port-Cartier–Sept-Îles Wildlife Reserve. Since 2006 it has been proposed to establish the Lake Walker National Park within the wildlife sanctuary, surrounding Lake Walker. As of May 2019 the project was stalled for lack of funding. It is named for Hovenden Walker, and gives its name to the Lac-Walker unorganized territory. Environment A map of the Ecological regions of Quebec places the lake in the 6J-T ecological subregion, part of the eastern spruce/moss domain of the boreal zone. Hydrology The main tributary of Lake Walker is the Schmon River, which enters at the northern end. Walker Lake (Northwest Arctic, Alaska)
Walker Lake ( Iñupiaq: ''Qalugluktuaq''; Denaakk'e: ''Taah K'ehoolaanh'') is the source of the Kobuk River in northwestern Alaska (emptying into Kotzebue Sound). The lake is located near the easternmost part of Northwest Arctic Borough, deep in the remote interior of northern Alaska. Explored during an expedition led by John C. Cantwell in 1885, under the authority of the Revenue Marine. Also known as "Big Fish Lake", Inupiaq legend in the area told of giant, ferocious fish that inhabited the waters. An attempt by a native with the Cantwell expedition to catch one of these giant fish involved a hook made of an entire set of reindeer antlers baited with a whole goose. Walker Lake is a natural lake in the Great Basin in western Nevada in the United States. It is 11 mi (17 km) long and 5 mi (8 km) wide, in northwestern Mineral County along the east side of the Wassuk Range, about 75 mi (120 km) southeast of Reno. The lake is fed from the north by the Walker River and has no natural outlet except absorption and evaporation. The community of Walker Lake is found along the southwest shore. Throughout the 20th century, Walker Lake supported over 50% of the economy of Mineral County through tourism and recreation. From fishing derbies to boat races, water skiing to an annual Loon Festival, the lake was a key part of Mineral County and Walker River Paiute communities. The area around the lake has long been inhabited by the Paiute who depended on the lake's fish and bird populations for food.
