Waldshut (district)
Waldshut () is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the south of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighbouring districts are (clockwise from the west) Lörrach, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Schwarzwald-Baar; followed in the south by the Swiss cantons of Schaffhausen, Zürich and Aargau. History The district dates to the ''Oberamt Waldshut'', which was created when the area became part of the state of Baden in the beginning of the 19th century. After some changes it was converted to a district in 1938. In 1973 the districts Säckingen and Hochschwarzwald were dissolved and were partially added to the district Waldshut, which then grew to its current size. Waldshut-Tiengen
Waldshut-Tiengen (; ), commonly known as Waldshut, is a city in southwestern Baden-Württemberg right at the Swiss border. It is the district seat and at the same time the biggest city in Waldshut district and a "middle centre" in the area of the "high centre" Lörrach/Weil am Rhein to whose middle area most towns and communities in Waldshut district belong (with the exception of seven communities that belong to Bad Säckingen's area). There are furthermore complexities arising from cross-border traffic between this area and the Swiss cantons of Aargau, Schaffhausen and Zürich. This classification relates to Walter Christaller's Central Place Theory, however, and not to any official administrative scheme. The city, which was newly created in the framework of the 1975 municipal reform, at that time passed the 20,000 mark in population. In heraldry, a bend is a band or strap running from the upper dexter (the bearer's right side and the viewer's left) corner of the shield to the lower sinister (the bearer's left side, and the viewer's right). Görwihl
Görwihl is a municipality in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. History The name is derived from the ancient German for spear, due to the spearhead shape of the area at the time. Görwihl was established in 1193, and was first recorded as ''Gerswillare''. Like many places in the region, Görwihl belonged to the county Hauenstein within Further Austria. It became the centre of legal activity for the region and played a role in the peasants' uprising. In 1806, Görwihl became part of the newly created Grand Duchy of Baden. The community in its present scale was developed in the context of Baden-Wurttemberg regional reform. Rotzingen joined the municipality of Görwihl in 1971 and Hartschwand in 1972, with the other districts following in 1975. Dettighofen, Baden-Württemberg
Dettighofen is a village and municipality in the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. History From 1840 until 1935, the original territory of Dettighofen, along with Jestetten, Lottstetten and Altenburg, was part of the region which formed a customs exclusion zone and was not part of the German customs area. Inhabitants were able to offer their produce to the rest of Germany as well as to Switzerland. This situation brought about a higher standard of living and prosperity compared to the rest of Germany. In 1927 the hamlet Häuserhof which had been part of neighbouring Weisweil, became part of Dettighofen as did the hamlet Eichberg which until that year had been part of Bühl. On 1 April 1936 the hamlet Albführen became part of the municipality of Dettighofen. On 1 January 1974 the municipalities of Berwangen and Baltersweil merged to become part of Dettighofen. Albbruck
Albbruck is a municipality of the district of Waldshut in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is on the southwestern border of Germany with Switzerland. History In 1805 during the process of German mediatisation, a restructuring of certain jurisdictions, Albbruck became a possession of the Grand Duchy of Baden. In 1939, the town was assigned to the district of Waldshut. Through much of this period, it was rural and agricultural. Decades after World War II, beginning in the 1970s, Albbruck underwent a period of growth. Residential areas were developed on the west side of the town and commercial space to its north. A new town hall was constructed in 1973. The municipality also grew in geographic area in that period, adding , Buch, and Unteralpfen with Albbruck on 1 January 1975.
