Waiting Alone
''Waiting Alone'' ( zh, c=独自等待, p=''Dúzì Děngdài'') is a 2004 Chinese romantic comedy film written & directed by Chinese-American filmmaker Dayyan Eng ( zh, c=伍仕贤, p=''Wǔ Shìxían''), depicting the lives of a group of hip twenty-something Beijing residents. The film features Chinese movie stars Xia Yu, Gong Beibi and Li Bingbing. It also features cameos of some of Asia's best known actors, including Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat in his first mainland Chinese film appearance. Excellent reviews and strong word-of-mouth made this independent film a cult hit in China where it was embraced by millennial audiences. The film debuted at the 2004 Tokyo International Film Festival and was released in theaters in China in 2005. Dayyan Eng
Dayyan Eng, known as Wu Shixian in China (), born in Taiwan in 1975, is a Chinese-American filmmaker of Chinese, English, and Persian ancestry, who grew up in three continents. He studied film arts at the University of Washington and transferred to the Beijing Film Academy, where he finished his undergraduate studies in directing. Eng started his career directing numerous TV commercials and music videos for the Asian market before he segued into films. Eng first won awards and recognition at the Venice Film Festival, Sundance and Cannes film festivals for his film '' Bus 44,'' and later for his acclaimed romantic-comedy ''Waiting Alone.'' Chen Yufan (; born 18 November 1975) is a Chinese actor and singer of the pop duo Yu Quan. Early life and education Chen was born Chen Tao () in Beijing, on November 18, 1975. He graduated from Beijing Food College (). Career In 1994, Chen dropped out of school and started his career as a singer-songwriter. That same year, Hu Haiquan, who started composing at 11, came to Beijing from Northeast China and played keyboard for bands.
