Waggon Union
''Waggon Union'' was a German manufacturer of rail vehicles and bus bodies, that was also known as ''Deutsche Waggon und Maschinenfabrik'' (German Wagon and Machines Factory) or DWM. The company was based in Berlin and was originally a branch of the '' Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken'', a munitions manufacturer best known as the designer and maker of the Luger pistol. After World War II the Berlin establishment switched to the renovation and building of railway and other public transport equipment, and in 1952 it changed its name to ''Deutsche Waggon und Maschinenfabrik''. ''Waggon Union'' was bought by ABB Henschel in 1990. In 1996 ABB Henschel became part of ABB Daimler Benz Transportation (Adtranz), which was subsequently acquired by Bombardier of Canada. ABB Henschel
Henschel & Son (german: Henschel und Sohn) was a German company, located in Kassel, best known during the 20th century as a maker of transportation equipment, including locomotives, trucks, buses and trolleybuses, and armoured fighting vehicles and weapons. Georg Christian Carl Henschel founded the factory in 1810 at Kassel. His son Carl Anton Henschel founded another factory in 1837. In 1848, the company began manufacturing locomotives. The factory became the largest locomotive manufacturer in Germany by the 20th century. Henschel built 10 articulated steam trucks, using Doble steam designs, for Deutsche Reichsbahn railways as delivery trucks. ''Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken Aktiengesellschaft'' (German Weapons and Munitions public limited company), known as DWM, was an arms company in Imperial Germany created in 1896 when '' Ludwig Loewe & Company'' united its weapons and ammunition production facilities within one company. In 1896 Loewe founded Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken with a munitions plant in Karlsruhe ( Baden), formerly Deutsche Metallpatronenfabrik Lorenz, and the weapons plant in Berlin. Shares that Loewe had in other gun- and ammunition plants were transferred to DWM.
